If you're stacking this against the numerous OK-but-not-great LPs Ike & Tina Turner issued in the late '60s, this might stand out a little by virtue of featuring a higher percentage of Ike Turner originals than those records typically did. In fact, all but one of these ten tracks are Turner compositions, though the variety of styles makes one suspect they might have been cut over a period spanning quite some time. There are some fairly decent girl group-influenced sides ("So Blue Over You," "Make 'Em Wait") that have the sound of something that might have been done a few years prior to this album's 1969 release date. At the more modern end of the spectrum, "Thinking Black" and "Black Beauty" are quite good funk-rock instrumentals with a sinister edge, a little ahead of the curve that would find such material gaining greater favor in the soul world in the early '70s. Other offerings are more in line with the husky Tina Turner-sung soul that usually comes to mind when you think of Ike & Tina's work during this era, though "Poor Little Fool" is a throwback to an early-'60s R&B ballad approach. It's an uneven LP -- more in style than quality -- but worthwhile for serious fans of the duo, though it doesn't have any of their very best material.

An amazing eight Ike And Tina Turner albums came down the pike in 1969, on every label from A&B to Blue Thumb to Minit. The glut resulted in the ludicrous situation of Ike and Tina competing en masse against themselves. It also doomed the prospects of most of the albums before they were even out of the chute. Yet amazingly, half made the pop charts, although this wasn't one of them. It was a decent album of routine soul and R&B, sung with Turner's usual sizzling energy.

THE WHITE LABEL PROMO, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed to the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals": the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.  In this case, though, this is a rather moot point,  since this rare promo-only version of the album was never commercially released to begin with.

The bidders should note that this album contains dedicated mono mixes which are either considerably different: much more raw and "punchy" than the common, commercially available stereo mixes.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          White Promo Label-only MONO  version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released, stereo version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 50:1.

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)

-        Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-        Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging  (nothing significant).

-        Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine   (nothing significant)

-        The laminated cover has a few air 'bubbles' and wrinkles in lamination (this is a common problem with most laminated 50’s and 60’s covers

-        Cover has two corners slightly  dinged  / bent (nothing significant)
