Description

Here is a curious record from 1934.  It's SAM ROBBINS AND HIS ORCHESTRA, doing the novelty song, "I'M A VERY HIGHLY EDUCATED MAN." Told in limericks, it's the tale of a man who has been a witness to world history since forever, kind of like Mel Brooks' 2,000 Year Old Man:

I’m a very highly educated man!

And I know what’s happened since the World began!

I saw mummies and the Sphinx,

Mixing Cleopatra’s drinks -

And I boiled my eggs in Nero’s frying pan!

But there’s more to this record than mere novelty.  Sam Robbins' band actually gets pretty hot, chugging along at a brisk pace, with great solos from the trumpet and clarinet.  AND it was made in gorgeous Bell Labs High Fidelity sound, comparable to present-day recording - truly the state-of-the-art in 1934.

On the flip side, is HERMAN WALDMAN AND HIS ORCHESTRA, a "territory band" from San Antonio, Texas, in their definitive dance orchestra arrangement of "HOME ON THE RANGE."   Definitive, because there's probably no big city closer to that "range" than San Antonio! Some interesting variants on the famous melody are given here.

This original 1934 "Buff" Bluebird 5478 is in lovely EE+ condition.  As clean as you ever could want it!

*****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
