Description
78 RPM 12" ACETATE in VG+ condition or very close (just a few scattered light marks on both sides not affecting play very much. Some light noise -- no cracks in finish).
This is a 12" demo ACETATE (read more about acetates below)
I received this acetate from an old gentleman who was involved in record distribution on the 50's and 60s. He also may have been a partner in some small record labels in the 1950s. Presumably he was given these acetates to review for a possible record release of the material
This is without doubt the Detroit doo wop group "The Imperials" but sounding a little more like their "Life Of Ease" sound and not as much like "You'll Never Walk Alone". This track "Do I Love You" and the flip "Starlite" are apparently UNRELEASED and were possibly scheduled for issue as GREAT LAKES 1210. Actual paper labels have even been found but no 1210 records were issued. And what a great doo wop record is is too!
The sound file posted is missing some content. This is to protect the rights of the auction winner and to still give bidders as much information as possible. Any removed content plays fine. The audio sample was made on a Numark turntable (with new needle)….. disc will probably sound better with a proper 78 needle and turntable.

. There are no type written labels typical to most acetate demos and it is unusual to see these on 12" format. I have no doubt that they are vintage 1950s (PLEASE SEE OTHER RELATED ITEMS I HAVE CURRENTLY LISTED). There is a number in the center but that is just a lot control number from the blank acetate supplier. Still a great opportunity to own this unusual, completely unique early Detroit doo wop 1950s demo disc
ACETATES are plastic coated aluminum discs that were custom "cut" at the studio and used for demos or reference. They are meant for temporary use but will last well if stored well and played sparingly. Many of the most unique and rare moments in record collecting are recorded only on acetates
