Another from my personal colllection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have accumulated over a period of more than 45 years! Here is an original 1st UK pressing of Iron Maiden 'No Prayer For The Dying' album 1983, their eighth studio album to be released in the UK!  A-1U and B-1U Matrix Endings! (Earliest for the best possible audio quality on vinyl in my opinion) The vinyl was only ever played a handful of times when purchased from new to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the cover for protection. This is how I have always stored my records!  Very very rare to find like this! The audio quality is almost as good as it gets in my opinion!  You could not hope for a more vibrant sounding copy in my personal opinion! No loud constant clicks or pops, no distortion absolutely stunning Near as Mint Audio Archive! The original 1st issue record sleeve and cover are also in exceptional condition through out just look at my photos!

No Prayer for the Dying is the eighth studio album by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It marks their first line-up change since 1983; guitarist Adrian Smith left the band during the pre-production phase, unhappy with the musical direction it was taking, and only having contributed to one song, "Hooks in You". Smith was replaced by Janick Gers, who had previously worked with singer Bruce Dickinson on his first solo-album, Tattooed Millionaire, and had also worked with Ian Gillan, former Marillion singer Fish, and New Wave of British Heavy Metal band, White Spirit




The album departed from the keyboard- and synthesiser-saturated progressive rock direction of the band's two previous studio outings (1986's Somewhere in Time and 1988's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son) in favour of a more "stripped down," straight forward style, reminiscent of the band's earlier material, which ushered in a change of vocal style for Bruce Dickinson from the operatic sound of the 1980s to a raspier way of singing.





The idea to make a more "street level" release also inspired the band to record in a barn on bassist Steve Harris's property in Essex, using the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio. This means it is the first Iron Maiden album to be recorded in their home country since 1982's The Number of the Beast. Dickinson states that this idea was a mistake, "I was as guilty as anyone else in going, 'Oh great! Look, we're all covered in straw! What a larf!'"





The album also departed from literary and historical lyrical themes in favour of more political content, with songs focusing on religious exploitation (such as in the record's first single, "Holy Smoke") and social concerns ("Public Enema Number One"). No Prayer for the Dying is the only Iron Maiden studio album to date without a song exceeding six minutes in length and the only one to contain profanity in the lyrics. It was also the band's first release with Epic Records in the US, after the band left Capitol Records, but was sold through EMI for all territories outside the US. Despite charting well in most countries, particularly in the UK where it debuted at No. 2, it would be the band's last album to receive gold certification in the US.




No Prayer for the Dying includes the hit song "Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter", which, in spite of a ban by the BBC, remains Iron Maiden's only UK No. 1 single to date. A tongue in cheek song written by Dickinson and originally recorded with his solo band for the A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child film soundtrack, Harris decided that the song would be "great for Maiden" and had the band rerecord it.




Following Dickinson's departure from Iron Maiden in 1993, songs from No Prayer for the Dying have been largely ignored at live performances. "Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter" was the only song played on a post-1993 setlist, appearing on the band's 2003 summer tour.





No Prayer on the Road was the tour in support of the album.





No Prayer for the Dying does not follow the continuity of previous album covers, as Eddie no longer exhibits either his lobotomy or cyborg enhancements.




Two versions of the cover exist. The original 1990 version has Eddie bursting from his grave and grabbing a grave-digger by the neck. As the band's manager, Rod Smallwood, disliked the figure, he asked artist Derek Riggs to remove him from the cover for the 1998 re-release, although the original artwork is used on the disc itself.




Additionally an inscription was added to the plaque on the tomb, which Riggs had initially left blank to allow the band to add their own words, and reads "After the Daylight, The Night of Pain, That is not Dead, Which Can Rise Again." The picture disc LP shows Eddie firing a weapon made of four machine guns (a reference to the album's opening track, "Tailgunner"). It has the original cover on side two.

The Vinyl

On initial inspection there isn't much to say about the vinyl this looks absolutely superb! I can hardly see a blemish! The Vinyl lies perfectly flat on the turntable and is free from any warping, (Very important because these mid eighties vinyls are very prone to warping if they were not stored correctly)! Any marks that could be possibly be seen looked under strong light would be light wyspysleeve removal marks! Try to find better after 30 years! Points to note!  These vinyls have been stored seperately in poly sleeves during its storage life which has preserved this vinyl all of these years this is how I have always stored my vinyls!

The Audio Quality

I have played the vinyl track for track and recorded the actual album for you to hear in the player above! The audio is astoundingly clear and vibrant and the separation is to die for. Only found like this on the earliest UK pressings and pressings that have been barely ever played in my opinion! There is no distortion or signs that this has been overplayed at all, in fact this vinyl has only ever been played no more than a handful of plays ever! Please note! Any interferance heard was light isolated static in between some tracks or /ticks at the intro to side one first track only, perhaps three or four very light ticks on the right channel to report but importantly ,  NO nasty crackle or distortion No loud constant clicks or pops noted during the play of this vinyl! Audio Graded Near As Mint in my opinion!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! This album has been laying dormant in a case for over 30 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static/ticks/crackle! A constant cleaning before each play is highly recommended! This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality!

Please allow for isolated static type ticks that may be heard in the odd place during the play of this vinyl! (not consistant throughout the audio) Please remmember that this is an original 30 years old vinyl that would have originally been played on a 30 year old system! There was nothing too bad that adversely effected the overall enjoyment in my opinion!

THIS AUDIO WILL BE HARD TO SURPASS! TOP ON ALL FREQUENCIES! THE AUDIO IS CRISTAL CLEAR AND VIBRANT WITH (NO) LOUD CONSTANT CLICKS OR POPS OR THAT THIS HAS BEEN OVERPLAYED (NO) DISTORTION CERTAINLY (NO) SKIPS OR JUMPS!

The Labels

These are the original 1st UK issue custom EMI labels in superb if not in as near new condition! In fact I find it hard to see any spider marks around the spindle hole This looks totally unplayed in my opinion! This vinyl has barely ever been played at all No more than one time ever by me only! There is no spindle wear the hole is perfectly round! You can still see the plastic in the spindle hole! Very rare for 30 years old like this!

This is the original picture lyric record sleeve (no) splits or tares! In top condition!

The Cover

This is the original 1st issue EMI, super glossy appearance,  un laminated cover! Barcoded   (No real nasty creases to mention at all. Any minor lines to mention are at the spine, front top left corner and rear opening edge  but you have to look to notice in my opinion. No nasty marks worth to mention all text is legible  (see photo) All text is legible at the spine light crushing here only noticed if looked for in my opinion. (very hard to find!) Points to note! NO edge rubbing , any other marks or points you really would have to look to notice! No real ring wear to mention and no nasty edge rubbing wear that is so common on these  covers! Very hard to find like this! , believe me.!

I would grade this cover at least excellent to Excellent plus in my opinion!
