Released on the local Dallas Rainbow label(#R-2239)and contains some pretty generic gospel tunes. But the real attraction here is the cover and the back story. Here are the liner notes from the back of the LP.
It all happened on Main Street in Grand Prairie, Texas at 12:30 Friday night April 27, 1973. I was on my way home when a burnt orange Volkswagon pulled up along beside my car occupied by two white boys about the age of twenty-three. They were viewing my car. I greeted them with the religious "one way" sign. The fellow on the passenger side of the car rolled down his window and yelled out to me, "What do you want?". I replied with the phrase, "Jesus Saves!". He returned "Saves what, Green Stamps?". I replied "No, people like you".
They began to laugh and jeer and then I saw them drinking beer, so I just rolled up my window and ignored them. But, they kept on traveling alongside me so I glanced over at them. This time I saw a rifle barrel protruding from the car window. I ducked down in the seat and sped ahead as if by natural instinct. While I thought I was a safe distance them, I began to question whether that guy was going to use that gun or was he just trying to scare me. Well, they did scare me, but I didn't want them to know that so I slowed down.
I saw them coming in my rear view mirror, and they were coming fast. Just then my head nearly hit the dashboard from the impact of a bullet going through my back window and hitting me in the neck. I raised back up and turned around to see what was going on. The fellow, from his waist up, was hanging out the window aiming the gun right at me. I was hit in the neck, arm and back. I began stopping my car and then they took off around me and left.
Bleeding profusely, I managed to drive home not so far away. An ambulance came and took me to the hospital and there two detectives came in to question me. They told me my car had bullet holes in it from a M16 automatic rifle. One of the detectives came around the X-Ray table and picked up my hand and put it into his hand and said "Son,you knew what you were talking about when you said "Jesus Saves". I said "You better believe it".
