Inseminoid, also known as Horror Planet is a 1980 Science Fiction Horror film, firmly rooted in the swath of Alien-inspired outer space monster body-invasion movies. I had never heard of it when I stumbled across this soundtrack years ago, but considering its utterly absurd title, the big, red rubber monster on the cover, the pictures of people in spacesuits digging around in a cave on the back (and of course the immortal phrase "Sir Run Run Shaw presents..."), I had to know more. I bought the soundtrack and later got the film on VHS.

Inseminoid is a terrible movie: Some archaeologists on another planet are digging around in some ruins and find some rocks. Disaster strikes, people are injured, and eventually after several attempts to go back and figure out what happened, a lady archaeologist is... Uh... grabbed and Inseminated by an alien. Then, apparently impregnated, she goes crazy, develops superhuman strength and starts trying to kill everybody... And she screams a LOT. The plot makes little or no sense, and the filmmakers didn't seem to feel any obligation to explain it.

The soundtrack is all electronic-based, with skittering CR-78 hats and crazy Space-Drum-tom-tom solos. Some tracks are more creepy-droney with others more percussive, but the main theme seems oddly inappropriate for the monster - a funky-snakey synth pitch-bending bass line that sounds more like hard-boiled future detective funk than alien horror.

This is a pretty scarce record, it seems. I am sad to have to part with it, but I need to raise some money, and as a DJ, I just have to cut some records... Parts of this could be worked into a Synthwave set or weird monster-movie theme, but I never got the chance to play it out.

The sleeve has a couple of dings around the corners and edges, but is in fairly good shape with a bit of a smush at the lower right hand of the front cover... See the pictures. The vinyl is very clean and free of scuffs or scratches.
