When Ramblin' Jack Elliott's name comes up in folk magazines, he's usually identified as a Guthrie copy who later passed on his skills of impersonation to Bob Dylan. This is true to a point, but a listener doesn't have to check out but three or four tracks on Jack Elliott to find out what an original oddball he is. It's true, he does cover Guthrie's "1913 Massacre" here, and he tends to prefer traditional material like "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" and "More Pretty Girls" over originals. But his extravagant vocals deliver this material in the strangest, most startling manner. The listener can never be sure whether he's sending up a song like "Roll on Buddy" or just determined to turn tradition on its head. The most fun and fascinating piece here is "Guabi Guabi," an African folk song that Elliott learned by copying the vocal inflections. Of course, in his typical fashion, he talks through part of song explaining that he couldn't understand a certain section of the original. In his off the cuff, just for the hell of it way, Elliott has more in common with the Holy Modal Rounders than traditionalists like Pete Seeger or the New Lost City Ramblers. Jack Elliott manages to pay its respects to public domain material while still being entertaining.
(EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY RONNIE LAKFORD JR., ALL MUSIC GUIDE /ALLMUSIC.COM/)
A brief note on Bob Dylan’s various pseudonyms used on different recording sessions: Blind Boy Grunt is not the only pseudonym Dylan has used on record: he also appears as piano player Bob Landy on the Elektra anthology The Blues Project (on the song "Downtown Blues"), as Tedham Porterhouse when playing harmonica on Ramblin' Jack Elliott's 1964 album track "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," (THIS ALBUM) and as Robert Milkwood Thomas when adding piano and harmony vocals to Steve Goodman's "Somebody Else's Troubles" in the early 1970s (Allmusic.com)

· CONDITION:
· THE RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(c) The record is STILL in its original inner, perforated plastic baggy, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· THE COVER
COVER IS STRONG NEAR MINT, STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP (PLEASE NOTE: THE ORIGINAL OWNER WAS SO ANAL ABOUT KEEPING HIS COVERS PRISTINE AND IMMACULATE THAT HE TAPED THE CORNERS (AND EVEN CUTOUT HOLE (!!!) WITH A FEW PATCHES OF CLEAR SCOTCH TAPE; THESE CAN BE EASILY AND EFFORTLESSLY REMOVED (WE KNOW FOR FACT, HAVING REMOVED THE TAPE FROM QUITE A FEW OF HIS ALBUMS)
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has a small cutout hole in one of the corners
- Cover has some tiny, faint writing on its back side (a microscopic price code written in one corner)
- Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.
NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER
