SHORT BIO

Few performers have enjoyed as versatile a career as Jackie DeShannon, and although she made a couple of well-remembered Top Ten pop hits in the '60s, she's never achieved the level of success or artistic recognition she deserves. Starting as a pop-rockabilly singer as a teenager in the late '50s, she quickly developed into one of the L.A. pop scene's hottest songwriters, penning hits for Brenda Lee, the Fleetwoods, and Irma Thomas, and often collaborating with fellow noted songwriter Shari Sheeley. One of the first established rock figures to see the potential for crossbreeding rock and folk, she was a crucial midwife to the birth of folk-rock, with the wonderful singles "Needles and Pins" and "When You Walk in the Room." Using the circular, jangling guitar lines that would become a prime feature of early folk-rock, both of those songs were covered by the Searchers for much bigger hits; she also wrote "Don't Doubt Yourself Babe," covered by the Byrds on their first album, and penned a couple of Marianne Faithfull's early hits. In the mid-'60s, she also found time to write some songs with then-sessionman Jimmy Page, and perform as an opening act for the Beatles on the group's first big American tour. “needles and pins”, was the 2nd of 16 numbers to chart for DESHANNON, peaking at #84 in 1963.  The flip side is “did he call today, mama?”.  This 45 is on the Liberty Records label #F-55563.

CONDITION

Vinyl: Grading is by visual inspection only.  I’d rate it NM-. The surfaces are mirror-like.  This 45 appears to have seen little, if any, play.

Labels: There is no ring wear/soiling, writing, stickers, cut-out marks, stamps, or drill holes.   These are very clean labels.

The 45 will come in a plain blue sleeve, and will be shipped in a mailing carton specifically designed for shipping 45s, or in a “sandwich” of two layers of heavy cardboard securely taped on either side of the 45 or 45s.  The protection afforded to your 45 with these four cardboard squares is at least as good as the protection afforded by the specially designed mailer.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  I have collected over 800 45s over the past several years.  My intention was to mat them with signatures of the artists that produced them.  I have 476 autographs of pop, rock, blues, country, and R&B artists to go along with these 45s.  I now find that the project is too grand, and I’m getting too old to pull it off.  When I purchased these 45s, they were the best that I could buy off of eBay and/or GEMM at the time.  I only took the cream of the crop.  Since I was going to mat them, I was interested primarily in their visual appearance, particularly the label.  I didn’t even have a turntable.

I started selling these and other 45s a couple of weeks ago, and was disappointed in how, in too many cases, the prices realized for the 45s in great condition were the prices I remember “beater” copies selling for.  Folks, with perhaps but a couple of exceptions (because nothing better was available at the time) these are definitely not “beaters”.  I can’t let them go for $0.99 like many did in the first batch I put up for bids.  I can get that without going to the trouble of posting them on eBay.  My prices for the better quality 45s will now be elevated some, but even at that they will represent a decent bargain.  The 45s of lesser quality, and those without picture sleeves will open at $0.99 as before.

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR THE AUTOGRAPHS OF THE ARTISTS WHO CUT THESE 45s.  THE 45 AND THE AUTOGRAPH WOULD MAKE A GREAT PIECE FOR YOUR WALL.

COMBINED SHIPPING – High shipping costs have always been a pet peeve of mine, although sellers have explained to me that the cost of doing business has escalated significantly, and that they’ve been stiffed so often by buyers that they’ve been compelled to hike shipping costs and to require delivery confirmation.  Since I’m new to selling, I’ll start with the fees listed below, and see what happens. (Please note that the fees for multiple items apply only to buyers who’ve requested, in advance, that I hold items they intend to bid on so that a single one-time payment for items won within a seven-day window can be made).

Insurance, if desired, will be additional.  I can’t, and won’t be responsible for lost items.  The USPS is what it is.

NOTE:  I’ve been told that Italy, Spain, and other countries do not provide the best postal service, and that delivery of items can take several weeks.  I have no personal experience with this at this point, but my foreign buying friends, please keep this in mind if and when your patience begins to wear thin.  I can only assure you that I’ll mail your item out in a timely way.  I cannot assure you that you’ll receive it in a timely way.

PAYMENT: Payment is expected within 10 days of auction's end. If payment is not received, and you have not e-mailed to explain the delay, negative feedback will be left and a non-paying bidder claim will be filed.

ALL SALES FINAL! –  In talking with other sellers, I’ve been told that, when it comes to audio media in any form, it has become all too commonplace for buyers to rip or record the material  they like, and then want to return the item for a refund.  Under this circumstance, it would be impractical for me to adopt a “satisfaction guaranteed” policy.  Look – I’ve been involved in over 3000 eBay transactions as a buyer and have a perfect feedback record even for those years when it really meant something.  On those very rare occasions in which I’ve encountered problems with others, matters were easily resolved without resorting to a third party.  Life has enough hassles without getting jacked around by people on eBay.  If I’ve screwed up – missed a huge flaw in my visual inspection, sent the wrong item, etc., I’ll make it right, but otherwise no returns on audio media please.
