I WANNA MAKE YOU HAPPY / Mama's Good Girl - DJ PROMO  (Mainstream 629)  Out of Los Angeles, this beautiful 1965 release written by Cynthia Weil & Russ Titelman was in a chart war with another stunning version out of Los Angeles by MARGARET MANDOLPH on the Planetary label.  While both versions were excellent efforts and saw no success at the original time of release, they have become quite sought after by collectors of the girl group sound.  (DUSTY SPRINGFIELD also recorded a wonderful version which was included in her 1965 LP entitled, 'OOOWEEE!').   Jackie (Miller) & Gayle (Caldwell) were members of the singing group, The New Christy Minstrels and broke away in 1964 to form their duo.  While they had a handfull of singles, appeared in a few teen movies and were regular performers on television shows such as 'Shindig!', they never managed to have a top 40 hit.  They eventually broke up in the late 60's.  Gayle Caldwell passed away at her home in Ft. Bragg, California on April 14, 2009.  The labels of this disc have some light wear and the vinyl has some minor scuffing mostly near the outer edge.  Nothing serious.  An over all, VG.
