AD LIB 6601

No doubt the original pressing of Ad Lib 6601 is one of the most sought after records in the history of Jazz – often called “the holy grail of Hard Bop”. This limited Japanese reissue (Shinseido / Toshiba) was released in 1990 and is also very hard to find today – moreover chances are low you will ever come across a copy in such pristine flawless shape as the one offered here: Condition of cover and vinyl is truly MINT, condition of the OBI is MINT, too. The vinyl looks as if no needle has touched it up so far, the superior sound will satisfy even the most critical audiophile listener. The jacket is enclosed in transparent resealable Japanese outer sleeves, a detailed description in Japanese language is added. A great occasion for serious collectors who have grown tired of searching for scratched original pressings. Actually this LP may be called original in every respect since the selections, the timings, the couplings, the jacket cover, the liner notes, the label and the logo are almost completely identical to this recording when it was initially issued in the mid-fifties. (A tiny difference can be watched in the picture of the label where the words “MFD. BY TOSHIBA-EMI LTD. IN JAPAN” are visible in small letters.) Enthusiasts will welcome the opportunity to enjoy the legendary cover art of Parboo Singh (the silhouette of a black cat resembling the skyline of Manhattan) in outstanding shape. Be sure no “original” jacket will dispel so much of shining beauty as this high glossy laminated cover. Some information about the music: On his debut LP as a leader Jackie McLean (as) is accompanied by Donald Byrd (tp), Mal Waldron (p), Douglas Watkins (b) and Ronald Tucker (dr). Recording date: October 21, 1955.
