Rare late 1960s lp with Indian-influenced psych-drone pieces performed by composer Jacques Lasry on the legendary Structures Sonores (sound sculptures built out of metal, glass, and plastic by Bernard and Francois Baschet). He is joined by son Teddy Lasry on flute and bass violin, Jean Guerin on tabla, and Aude Cornillac on occasionally surfacing wordless vocals. "The structures... employ such energizing agents as glass rods that vibrate when stroked by moistened fingers; amplifying devices, such as plastic balloons filled with air or metal cones or foils; and vibrating rods that are struck by hard or soft mallets." The resulting raw tones and resonances extracted from these unique instruments are fascinating.

The Baschet Structures Sonores have been used in compositions by Andres Lewin-Richter, Ravi Shankar, Toru Takemitsu, and Jacques, Yvonne, and Teddy Lasry; they compare to the sound sculpture and homemade instrument work of Max Neuhaus, Harry Partch, Z'ev, Donald Knaack, Harry Bertoia, Alvin Lucier, Paul Panhuysen, Bill Fontana, etc. Jacques Lasry also released an lp on the legendary Patchwork French library label. Teddy Lasry was a member of French prog group Magma.

Subtitled 'The Hypnotic music of the sculptures that sound.' and released on the touchstone 'Music Of Our Time' series on Columbia, this LP is interesting not so much for Jacques Lasry's compositions, but for the fact that the music was composed for and played on the Baschet Brothers' Structures Sonores.

… "My brother Bernard [Baschet] and I want to make a synthesis of the following three elements:
shapes
sounds
public participation

We make shapes and objects with which music can be produced manually — that is without electricity or electronics. Therefore, anyone can play on them. Beginnings in 1954 were difficult. In our attempts to synthesize new form and new sound, music people said 'this is no music' and Scupture people said 'this is no sculpture'."
...Acoustical laws are precise--some families of shapes are good, some bad. We have to develop metal or plastic surfaces that can be compared to sails....The structures also have to be strong, some of them have been played on by more than 150,000 people, including children. Thus, we try to combine the aesthetic with the functional."
