LET'S GET FUNKY! By the late 60s, early 70s, James Brown had earned numerous titles - The Godfather of Funk, Soul Brother #1, The Hit Man, and The Hardest working Man in Show Business. Here are 2 of his original press vinyl records that earned him those monikers: • GRITS & SOUL 1964- Stereo SRS 67057 In 1964 Brown thought his contract with King was over, so he formed his own production company Fair Deal; King sued and got an injunction against Brown singing on any recordings. Brown was thus forced to release an instrumental album, the record that let Brown get back to his first love, the organ; great horns, stellar organ and a fast-paced rhythm. VINYL: NEAR MINT, COVER: EXCELLENT, very light ring wear at top on front. • IT’S A MOTHER 1969- Stereo KSD 1063 Seems like Brown is reaching right through this album to get you up and moving. The big hit, "Mother Popcorn" is here in all its two-part glory. He noticed his fans were trying to copy his dance moves on stage, so he wrote a rhythmic melody and lyrics for the dance, called it “The Popcorn,” and it was an overnight smash.
