Some info on the release:  Very rare release on the american Opus One label (that released also works by John Cage, Barton McLean, Daniel Goode, Lou Harrison, Barre Phillips, Joel Chadabe, Garrett List, Frederic Rzewski, Harry Partch, Gordon Mumma, Annea Lockwood, J.D. Robb and others). This record brings together Jane Brockman (a close friend of Louis and Bebe Barron of the Forbidden Planet fame) and George Todd, the director of the Electroacoustic studio at Middlebury University. As the record's title implies, here you have electronic music for the kurzweil and synclavier synthesizers. George Todd's pieces, "Sound Sculptures", "Romance" and "Creati" were all composed for the Synclavier Digital Music System, "Sound Sculptures" inspired from imagined mobiles and kinetic art objects, "Creati" inspired by a kinetic sculpture at LaGuardia airport -a kind of elegant pinball machine with steel ball bearings sliding down metal chutes, whirling through heliotropic funnels, banging or dropping into metal and wood objects. While on "Romance" the composer used homebuilt instruments ("harmoboes" & "harpolins"). While on the other side, Brockman's etudes are composed entirely for the Kurzweil digital synthesizer and intends to demonstrate the rich capabilities of the machine.

The Synclavier System was an early synthesizer and sampler, manufactured by New England Digital. First released in 1975, it proved to be highly influential among both music producers and electronic musicians, due to its versatility, its cutting-edge technology and distinctive sound.

Originally developed as the "Dartmouth Digital Synthesizer" by Dartmouth College professor Jon Appleton, in association with NED founders Cameron W. Jones and Sydney A. Alonso, - and subsequently under the marketing guidance of Brad Naples the Synclavier was one of the first synthesizers to completely integrate digital technology. It used FM synthesis as well as sampling in order to create sounds, which were stored on large magnetic disks. It was often referred to, by New England Digital and others, as the "tapeless studio," due to one's ability to compose and produce an entire song, solely on the Synclavier. Synclavier systems were expensive - the highest price ever paid for one was about $500,000, although average systems were closer to about $200,000 - $300,000. Although this made it inaccessible for most musicians, it found widespread use among producers and professional recording studios, and it competed in this market with other high-end production systems, such as the Fairlight CMI. Quite close to  Lejaren Hiller, Roger Reynolds, Alvin Lucier and of course David Behrman, Larry Austin, Jerry Hunt, Glenn Branca, Bruce Haack, Phil Niblock, Charlemagne Palestine, Noah Creshevsky and Charles Dodge.

Condition: Vinyl lies in an overall very good+ condition, has a couple of bad looking marks (sounds way better than it looks) on side b: -side a: is mint-, while cover lies in excellent condition, would be mint if it wasn't for a small corner bend.
