Oscar Pettiford & Red Mitchell –
JAZZ MAINSTREAM –
Bethlehem BCP-2 –
EXTREMELY RARE!
A rare prize in jazz repertory, JAZZ MAINSTREAM was released in 1955 and heralded the work of Oscar Pettiford on side 1, Red Mitchell on side 2.
The Oscar Pettiford group at the time was comprised of Oscar on bass, Clark Terry and Joe Wilder on trumpet, Jimmy Cleveland on trombone, Earl Knight on piano, Osie Johnson on drums, along with a reed section. Selections are JACK THE BEAR, TAMALPAIS, SWING UNTIL THE GIRLS COME HOME, MOOD INDIGO, CHUCKLES, and TIME ON MY HANDS.
The Red Mitchell group has Red on bass, Zoot Sims on sax, Conte Candoli on trumpet, Bob Brookmeyer on trombone, Claude Williamson on piano, and Stan Levey on drums. Selections are HAPPY MINOR, LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY, GONE WITH THE WIND, KELLY GREEN, and SCRAPPLE FROM THE APPLE.
About as rare as a jazz LP can get, JAZZ MAINSTREAM is here in a cover without major fault, just some minor shelf, front and back. Within, is the deep-groove Bethlehem platter in VG+ shape, and a little less in two small areas.
Entirely worthy of the finest jazz library, and extremely hard to find.
For other fine records, TAS picks and hard-to-finds, please see my complete list of offerings here on eBay.
Shipping and handling is $5 for up to 5 LPs shipped within the States. Internationally, $15 via airmail for the first LP, $3 each thereafter. (Canada is half that.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
