Description
You are looking at an original 1956 Blue Note pressing of The Jazz Messengers at the Cafe Bohemia Volume 1. Mono deep groove. Flat edge. Blue Note 1507. RVG matrix runout. Lexington Avenue labels. I have included clips of both sides of this LP so that you can hear it for yourself. Please see below to listen to clips of this LP. LP ultrasonically cleaned and placed in a new poly inner sleeve.
Vinyl Condition: Side 1 visually strong VG. Nice gloss. Sleeve scuffs and non-feelable, superficial marks. Unmarked labels. Plays VG to VG+. The first third of side 1 plays VG and the second 2/3 plays VG+. Mild to moderate background noise, low static and an occasional pop that never overpowers the music. Wonderful, atmospheric pressing sonics throughout. Please listen to 10 minutes of clips below of side 1 to hear it for yourself. I personally thought side 1 sounded very nice. Side 2 has what looks like heat or sun damage to half of vinyl surface - please see last image. It plays for about 2 seconds clean and then 2 seconds with pronounced static and back and forth and back and forth again throughout the whole side. Essentially you hear again and again 2 clean seconds and then 2 static-y seconds. I heard no skips and it plays all the way through without skips or hiccups but it does have sun damage and repeated pronounced surface noise from start to finish. Please listen to the audio clips below. When buying this LP you are essentially buying it for its presentable outer sleeve and for side 1. Side 2, though technically listenable, is not a nice listen. I would visually grade side 2 good- or poor and I would play grade side 2 likewise.
Outer Sleeve (cover) condition: Strong VG. Presentable VG. No writing, no water damage. Has minor age yellowing, minor surface wear, and minor ring wear. Has about a 2 inch clean split seam at the top of the spine and the bottom seam is completely split though it is a very clean split seam and when in a clear plastic sleeve its not seen or noticeable. Its not until you hold the sleeve in your hands and look closely and separate the seam with your fingers that you will see it is split. I could easily have fixed it with special sleeve seam tape but left it as is for you to fix in case you are a purist and would prefer to leave it alone as it is a very clean and flush split and not a noticeable split. Small tape mark at middle bottom of front cover (to the right of Art Blakey's image) and at the same spot on the back cover.
