Description
Very nice original 1956 first pressing copy of the self-titled Jazz Messengers LP on Columbia CL-897. Original 6-Eye labels and rare first pressing "no-ad" back cover. This is an unbelievable lineup of great musicians: Art Blakey, of course, with Horace Silver, Donald Byrd, Hank Mobley, and Doug Watkins. A simply glorious record through and through. And this copy sounds absolutely gorgeous. There is some scuffing and light marks to be seen but mostly it plays almost perfectly. Side one, I would say, plays NM without the slightest crackle, and side two plays E with a touch of crackle just between tracks. The cover has light shelfwear but is in overall great shape, with no seam splits or bent corners or stains or anything but general age. A very slight edge fray is beginning on the bottom edge in the center where the disc touches the cover, but is not fully torn. Also a very short seam plit is just beginning on the bottom at the right side, only about 1/2". Otherwise the edges are crisp and clean, and the corners only lightly worn. This is a very nice original copy that sounds fantastic.
