When it was originally released the Jeff Beck Group's second album, featured a famous sleeve note on its back cover:
"Today, with all the hard competition in the music business, it's almost impossible to come up with anything totally original. So we haven't. However, this disc was made with the accent on heavy music. So sit back and listen and try and decide if you can find a small place in your heads for it."
Beck was reacting to the success of peers and competitors like Cream and Led Zeppelin, bands that had been all over the charts with a hard rock sound soon to be dubbed heavy metal, and indeed, his sound employs much the same brand of "heavy music" as theirs, with deliberate rhythms anchoring the beat, over which the guitar solos fiercely and the lead singer emotes.
The album is heightened by the distinctive vocals of Rod Stewart, and Beck-Ola easily could have been the album to establish the Jeff Beck Group as the equal of the other heavy bands of the day.
Unfortunately, a series of misfortunes occurred. Beck canceled out of a scheduled appearance at Woodstock; he was in a car accident that sidelined him for over a year; and Stewart and bass player Ron Wood decamped to join Faces, breaking up the group. Nevertheless, Beck-Ola stands as a prime example of late-'60s British blues-rock and one of Beck's best records.

Track Listing:
Side 1: "All Shook Up" (Otis Blackwell) – 4:53 / "Spanish Boots" (Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart and Ron Wood) – 3:37 / "Girl From Mill Valley" (Nicky Hopkins) – 3:49 / "Jailhouse Rock" (Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller) – 3:14
Side 2: "Plynth (Water Down the Drain)" (Nicky Hopkins, Rod Stewart and Ron Wood) – 3:09 / "The Hangman's Knee" (Jeff Beck, Nicky Hopkins, Tony Newman, Rod Stewart and Ron Wood) – 4:49 / "Rice Pudding" (Jeff Beck, Nicky Hopkins, Tony Newman and Ron Wood) – 7:22

LABELS: Clean, bright and fresh labels with just some light spindle marking on Side Two, none evident on Side One. The spindles on Side Two may have been caused by just one play of Side One, Side Two may have never been played - NEAR MINT
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep, like new glossy sheen with just some light and superficial scuff marks (there are purely cosmetic, are very minor and have no audio consequence whatsoever) - NEAR MINT
VINYL Audio: Loud, strong and rough MONO cut with a very, very dirty sound - not in its reproduction but in its 'one-take' raw, live feel, and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always a real pleasure to return to this one) the audio delivery is pretty much flawless There is the lightest touch of surface noise between some - not all - of the tracks - but this is a very, very minor issue otherwise, the playback is pristine with no groove-wear (it's seen little play) and no distortion. Strictly graded NEAR MINT for audio this is a beautiful copy of a fantastic LP - very hard to find in the original MONO format and one very, very highly recommended indeed
SLEEVE: The untreated G&L flipback sleeve in EXCELLENT+ condition. The edges and spine (which is 'pinched' at the top and bottom) are sharp, crisp and square with no rubbing - all spine text is clear and bold. There is a tiny patch of staining to the bottom spine corner but it's very faint otherwise, a lovely sleeve - very clean
and the original tinted EMI inner is NEAR MINT
