Description

Another RARE UK pop single that you'd be lucky to find a handful of in your entire lifetime.  Jeff Kane "Pretty Young Lady" b/w "On My Darkest Day" from 1969 on the UK Tangerine label.  I do believe this to be the ONLY release by the enigmatic Mr. Kane, about whom I can't find a single bit of information (but sure would appreciate any, nudge nudge!).  Whoever he is, he got Alan Hawkshaw to arrange both sides of his pop creation, And Alan gives him the sweeping big orchestration that lovers of the Fading Yellow school of lush pop really go for.  "Pretty Young Lady" has an Idle Race sound, although Jeff's vocals sound like early Marc Bolan.  Here's what the Sweet Floral Albion website had to say about it:

"JEFF KANE - 'Pretty Young Lady' (Tangerine DP. 0006) Rel.: 14/03/69.
With its sweeping arrangement from Alan Hawkshaw, this is a top-class pop beauty, and nowadays like many items on the label, rarely seen for sale. Not psych but swinging London pop with a 'Little Girl Lost And Found' theme and a kitchen sink production, it still fits and certainly still turns me on, just like a pretty young lady should."

No mention, however, of the flipside, "On My Darkest Day", which is every bit as good - an epic, sweeping BIG orchestrated pop piece full of ambition.  With its echoed out vocals and grandiose style, it's a mini-Macarthur Park in 3:21.  Trust me when I tell you this unknown little single is NOT easy to find - this is the only one I've seen in the past five years - and needless to say, it's still uncomped.  Original 1969 pressing on the UK Tangerine label.  A-side has some scuffs and marks, both sides play VG with surface noise and crackle - could probably use a good cleaning as visually it's certainly not beat up.   Winning bidder pays $4.00 shipping in the US, $5 to Canada, $6 everywhere else.  Paypal, Bidpay, cash, checks and money orders accepted.  Please check out my other auctions for more obscure singles.  I will combine shipping costs on multiple wins.
