Clarice Jensen is the artistic director of the American Contemporary Music Ensemble and a graduate of The Juilliard School who returns with her fourth solo album. Moving beyond the synth-heavy isolation of her previous work, Jensen places the cello at the forefront of In Holiday Clothing, Out of the Great Darkness while layering loops and subtle effects to create rich, drone-based sound fields. Inspiration is drawn from Bach's Solo Cello Suites, but she expands the instrument's scope while maintaining a tactile, acoustic core. A wonderful meditation on solitude and improvisation that forms Jensen's most hallucinatory work to date.
