Record Condition: Strong Mint-, an 8.5, play graded

There is nothing that I can find on-line about this record; no listings on eBay in the past 6 years, maybe never; no listings anywhere on-line. My on-line searches reveal nothing about the Copeland label or the band. There is no mention of this record or the artist in any of my price guides. But I've culled some information from speaking to a few collectors in the area, from the label, and from listening to both sides. The better (uptempo) side is The Sway, actually the b-side. It bears no resemblance to the Bobby Rydell song (that's good!) with a similar name.
Copeland Records was a "label" out of Greensboro, NC. Most likely this was pressed in the 1960-1962 era and from the voice of Jerry Allison and the rather spare but gutsy sound of the hollowed out electric lead guitar, this was without a doubt a group in their teens, probably still in high school when this was recorded. (Of course, this is not the Jerry Allison of The Crickets). While the a-side is a rather average teen rockaballad, the b-side bridges the gap between rockabilly and early garage. It is all of 3 minutes, rather long for a song of that era. It starts with a long guitar intro before Allison gets to the vocal part and the middle is a long (about 45 seconds) guitar break. No fluff here. The Del-Rays are lead guitar, bass and drums. While not fully polished, they prove to be good musicians. The Sway is more late period rockabilly than garage (but a bit of both); it is not your wild-eyed, raving mad rockabilly with all the yelps, whoops and hollers but it is does rock very well. It's rarity - supposedly only a couple hundred pressed - and most unaccounted for - alone should make this a major collector's item.
