Description

MEGA RARE 1971 Original UK A1//B3 Legindary Error/Export Pressing 'Aqualung' by Jethro Tull on the Mega Rare 'Pink Rim' Island labels with ILPS Cat. No.!!! A Massively Rare Record In Every Respect - Only Pressed in the Hundreds!!! In Beautiful Ex++ Condition!!! Complete with Superb 1st Press E.J. Day Textured Gatefold Sleeve and 1st Press Light Paper Lyric Inner!!! A Very Rare Record Impossible to Find in this Condition!!!! A Massive Rarity!!!

You are bidding on the rarest UK Jethro Tull album of them all, the mysterious 'Pink Rim' Island pressing of Aqualung!!! This is seen as the 'Holy Grail' amongst UK Jethro Tull albums. Until only relatively recently this was only rumoured to exist!!! Much has been speculated about this very rare pressing, but the truth is that nobody for certain knows how it came into being. There are many theories, from it being a label error to to being an export pressing that was never exported!  The common theory is that it was only pressed in tiny amounts for export to a few eastern European countries, but the pressing was cancelled before any copies were shipped. This theory also has flaws though as the matrix number (A1U//B1U) is exactly the same as the true  press with the residual Island logo (a very rare record in itself!). The fact that it did not have a separate export matrix and that it was only pressed in tiny numbers makes it highly unlikely that this was ever intended for export imo. Whatever the case, this pressing has gained legendary status amongst Tull fans and is incredible sought-after all over the world. You will probably need to bid high for this one, but it is a superb record with a genuine air of mystery to ita and whoever wins will be getting something very special indeed!!!

I am also currently offering a beautiful original 1971 UK True 1st Press UK Island/Chrysalis copy of Aqualung, with the 'Outlined i' green label and ILPS Island cat number!!! (all later pressings were pressed solely by Chrysalis and just had the Chrysalis cat number and no residual Island logo). Again, this is the rare UK  genuine 1st pressing and would make the perfect 1st press companion piece to this record, check it out by clicking the link below. This will probably be your only chance to own these two beautiful UK 1st pressings or what is Jethro Tull's masterpiece and one of the best progressive records ever made - don't miss this seriously rare opportunity!!! Good Luck!

Cat No:

ILPS-9145

1st Press Matrix:

Side 1: ILPS 9145  A-1U

Side 2: ILPS 9145  B-3U

Usually only found on later green labels (with no island logo) or the repress blue/white Chrysalis labeIs, this record is almost impossible to find on the original UK error/export press 'Pink Rim' label!!!  If you have never heard this record, it will blow you away!!! An absolutely essential (and very rare) progressive record to own!!!

The all-important pink rimmed Island centre labels are Mint- superb with NO Peeling, NO Lifting NO Grubbyness (very common on the white part of these labels) and NO unwanted writing/scribbles of any kind. What's more, there virtually NO visible spindle lines!!! The centre spindle holes and gramophone rims are also Mint-!!! I cannot emphasise how very difficult it is to find these 'Pink Rim' Island copies of this LP, let alone ones that have not been played to death, on the rare occasions that the do turn up they are full of nasty scratches and gouges. This one is NOT!!! It looks STUNNING with a deep 'just pressed' glass-like shine!!!  This thick & chunky 1st press vinyl easily grades as Excellent at the very least (most would grade much higher) with just some one or two tiny (and very small) hairlines and that's it!!! You will NOT find a more pristine example of this very special record!!! It will grace any high-grade Jethro Tull/Progressive collection!!! The thick quality pressed chunky 1970's vinyl looks and feels great (it is very heavy!). The original textured 1st press E.J. Day  gatefold sleeve, complete with lyric inner is also in superb condition. It is a truly outstanding example and easily grades as Excellent+, you will not find a better UK 1st press E.J. Day sleeve!!! It is unbelievably clean, tidy and unblemished!!! On the rare occasions these turn up they are usually completely worn out. Island Record's policy of not laminating their sleeves during the early 1970's always leads to these sleeves turning up grubby and worn-out looking today. This one is not!!! It still retains ALL of its original stiffness and BOX SHAPE with very little edge wear!!! It folds out perfectly to reveal the inner, which is completely unblemished with just some very light rippling (ALL 1st press Aqualung sleeves have this light rippling). The sleeve lies perfectly FLAT with NO RING WEAR and a MINT spine with MINT legible text!!! It has virtually NO corner and NO EDGE WEAR AT ALL and definitely NO seam splitting!!!  The sleeve has NO unwanted writing/scribbles!!! Anyone familiar with 1970's UK Island sleeves will appreciated how rare an original sleeve in this condition is!!  Of course, this record comes with its correct and original 1st press lyric-printed inner sleeve which is in Excellent condition, with not seam splitting (very rare for this inner) and no unwanted writing/scribbles) It easliy grades as Ex+!!! All in all a superb example of this rare UK Island/Chrysalis 1st pressing - Forget the later inferior re-pressings, this is the only way you should listen to this record!!! Please see my other auctions as I am are also currently listing more Jethro Tull rarities along with many more UK Prog/Rock/Psych/Folk & Rock 1st Pressings!!!!

We always combine postage so if you win more than 1 auction you save money on postage costs! We will only ship to non-UK countries via Airmail - we do not use surface mail, it is way too slow and thus increases the risk of records being damaged during transit.

A little note about insurance - Please read carefully... If the value of your record(s) is over £30, your invoice will include an insured option. Being the responsible adults you are, it is entirely up to you to take this up  - we strongly advise you to do this but will not hassle you about it. You either add the required insurance or you don't. If you do add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will get a refund. If you don't add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will not get a refund. Can we be any clearer? I think not.

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards.  If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...

Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.

We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
