Description
JETHRO TULL Stand Up (Island ILPS 9103) RARE UK Island Pink Rim 1970 MINT-
Here`s an original, early UK pressing of Jethro Tull`s "Stand Up", released on Island Records (August 1969). This specific issue, with characteristic Island Records "pink rim" labels is from February 1970.
Not much to add here, either. "Stand Up" always was this writer`s favourite Jethro Tull album and will probably remain so. This is where the inventive group`s sound truly congealed: The ensemble playing is tight and forceful and the musical ideas come a-dime-a-dozen, with beautifully sad ballads ("Reasons For Waiting"), Indian raga-influenced up-tempo compositions ("Fat Man"), hard rocking material ("New Day Yesterday", "Nothing Is Easy"), inventive variations on classical themes ("Bourée"), etc. Too wonderful to do justice to by mere description, really!
GRADING:
MINT- COVER, with slightest wear to top and bottom edges. Other than that, the cover is near-perfect. Please see photos for details.
- Small, faint stain on back cover (at top left).
- Inner sleeve with famed "gimmick" pop-up of the group in perfect, taut condition.
- Original inner sleeve in MINT- condition, date-stamped "2/70" (February 1970).
MINT- RECORD that looks practically unplayed! Visually very close to perfect.
- Small, superficial hairline (1 cm; between "Nothing Is Easy" and "Fat Man") that is inaudible.
- Early, textured Island "pink rim" labels with small "Chrysalis Production" stamp.
- Small (water?) stain on label of side one and a single, very light spindle line on side two.
- Play-graded EX++, with only lightest background crackle in the run-in and between some tracks.
Clear, clean sound that will please even the most discerning listener.
- The matrix stamp in the run-off to side one reads "ILPS 9103 A 2", with no visible stamp on side two!
Very hard to come by in such well-kept, hardly played condition: You will be getting great value for money with this item.
