Description
JETHRO TULL - THIS WAS
ISLAND LABEL 1968 ORIGINAL MONO FIRST UK PRESSING WITH WIDE SPINE OUTER LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE, IN VISUALLY EXCELLENT CONDITION.
MONO ILP 985
Released in 1968 before being quickly withdrawn, I am offering today this rare original debut album on the orange & blacl ball textured pink ISLAND label by JETHRO TULL titled 'THIS WAS'.
This is a very hard to find original 1968 withdrawn MONO UK 1st pressing on the original 1st Press rough textured orange & black ball pink ISLAND label.
THOUGH THIS VINYL VISUALLY IS EXCELLENT, DISPLAYING A FEW LIGHT SURFACE SCRATCHES ON EITHER SIDE, UPON PLAYING IT ON MY LINN AXIS, I FOUND IT PLAYS WITH SURFACE NOISE THROUGHOUT. ISLAND LP's WERE KNOWN FOR THIS IN THE LATE 60's WITH FREE's TONS OF SOBS BEING A FINE EXAMPLE. MY FATHER BOUGHT AND RETURNED THREE TO THE RECORD STORE BEFORE FINALLY FINDING A NICE EXAMPLE.
The Outer laminated gatefold cover with rare wide spine, would be superb only for a signature written on the inner gatefold as you can see from in my pictures, Otherwise it has a fully legible spine text and sharp edges, no splits or tears but the corners are showing wear.
For anyone that has never heard this album, it is very different to their later material, but still a Tull classic.
THIS IS THE 1968 UK 1ST PRESSING ON THE 1ST PRESS ROUGH TEXTURED ORANGE AND BLACK BALL PINK ISLAND LABEL, AND 1ST PRESS OUTER LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE. THIS LP IS VERY RARE AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND.
Tracks on this album are MY SUNDAY FEELING - SOME DAY THE SUN WON'T SHINE FOR YOU - BEGGARS FARM - MOVE ON ALONE - SERANADE TO A CUCKOO - DHARMA FOR ONE - IT'S BREAKING ME UP CAT'S SQUIRREL - A SONG FOR JEFFREY - ROUND.
The VINYL, The Vinyl visually looks excellent but as I described earlier on my system it playsthrough with background noise, this is very common with these original early Island pressings.
The SLEEVE, The rarer issue wide spine outer laminated gatefold sleeve is quite crisp, with sharp edges fully legible spine text, but had wear to the corners and a signature on the inner gatefold.
The LABELS, The rough textured orange & black ball ISLAND labels are very clean, free from unwanted writing or stickers etc.
The INNER, The origunal patents poly lined white inner is clean with no unwanted writing and no splits etc.
I try to be accurate in my grading as I know what its like to buy miss graded items but won't insult you by writing song lyrics etc. If you feel I have not described this correctly I am happy to refund you providing I receive the item back in the same condition as it leaves me, But I can only refund one lot of postage,
