JETHRO TULL This Was ORIGINAL UK Island EYE MONO WIDE SPINE Folk Prog LP
Jethro Tull, This Was.
Original 1968 UK pressed Island Records mono LP, ILP 985.
First issue, which features pink textured paper "eye" label, ILP 985 A / ILP 985 B matrix numbers and gatefold sleeve with very wide 10mm spine.
A fairly well preserved issue, but not mint. Labels are clean and undefaced. Some fairly gentle spider trail marks are detectable at the centre spindle areas, but not excessively so, and only at close inspection.
Vinyl surfaces still have a high gloss and a cursory inspection reveals just two or three visible scuff marks and light scratches. A closer inspection reveals a few more light scuffs and gentle hairline scratches, but these are not great in number, and they are isolated marks on an otherwise clean backdrop.
Playback is generally very acceptable. The loud and punchy mono cut is free of distortion or groove wear and does much to over ride imperfections. A few soft but audible ticks begin right at the end of the first track and continue into the second track, stopping very soon after the vocal kicks in. Else this is on the whole a very clean player with quiet surfaces and just two or three instances of isolated and very soft ticks.
Gatefold sleeve is a fairly solid VG. Laminated front and rear panels are still acceptably bright, and are free of laminate loss, marks, inscriptions or sticker debris. Inner of gatefold is similarly clean. Sleeve is starting to show overall age and handling wear, but with no glaring defects. A few linear and half moon creases to outer laminate, and some pinch line creases leading in from spine area. Head and foot of spine slightly rubbed through. Else spine is still fairly solid however, with just one slight ding near centre area. Top and bottom edges are not frayed or chipped. Entry side is crisp and not feathered, although slightly dinged here and there.
On the whole a very acceptable if not perfect issue of this scarce ealy mono LP.
