So, up for auction is a very hard to find in STILL SEALED condition and very rare original US first vinyl pressing of Jilala’s self - titled 6-track album privately pressed and released in the United States only in 1966 on deep groove red / black Trance Records labels with Cat No TRR 1225 and Matrix / Runout Nos TRR 1225A K682 [1st side] / TRR-1225B K681 [2nd side] making it the first and also the last ever release of the short lived Trance Records label!

The Jilala brotherhood of Morocco is one of many sects of Sufi Islam and an order of dervish musicians known for their practice of trance dancing and spiritual healing! Their music is rhythmic and stark: few drums and flutes, a pair of castanets and the voices of the followers! These six untitled vivid sonic portraits of early Moroccan Sufi trance music were recorded on portable Martel and Uher reel-to-reel tape recorders by British writer [The Process], performance artist and painter Brion Gysin and American author [The Sheltering Sky], composer and translator Paul Bowles during their celebrated expatriate stay in Morocco in 1965 and were privately released the next year by the legendary American poet, publisher, photographer and filmmaker Ira Cohen who also wrote the liner notes that capture the musical essence of a culture!

Unavailable for almost 60 years and - to my knowledge - NEVER SOLD BEFORE on eBay in STILL SEALED condition, this is a must have item for every devoted fan of Sufi trance music! So, do not miss…

Grading:I use the GOLDMINE standards for grading STRICTLY & CONSERVATIVELY  the condition of the items listed. The grading is mostly visual, though I dο “spot check” each of the songs.
