THE COVER:
1ST PRESS EJ DAY GATEFOLD LAMINATED COVER
The cover is in excellent condition!
The front is very clean, with no writing, tears, or creases. The laminate is fully intact. There are some very small areas of laminate ‘bubbling’, but nothing serious.
The opening edge has signs of feathering.
The corners have signs of wear, which I have tried to show in the photograph.
The colours are still vibrant and the text is very white and clean.
The rear cover is very clean, with no writing, tears or any other marks.
There is some feathering along the opening edge.
The spine is still very strong, without creasing, but with some rubbing on the top and bottom edges and a small patch in the middle.
The inside non-laminated gatefold is in excellent condition, with no tears, writing or creases.
THE SLEEVE:
The sleeve is in very good condition!
The polyliner sleeve is still reasonably white and clean, intact, with no marks, tears or writing, with just a little creasing. It has mellowed or aged over time.
THE NUMBERED POSTER / LYRIC SHEET
1st PRESS INSERT / POSTER / LYRIC SHEET
The poster is in excellent condition!
A real mystery!!
This is a very unusual item, as this is the first time I have ever seen a numbered poster / lyric sheet with any copy of Axis and there have been a few of these, which have come up for auction over the years!
I have just compared this poster to a Mono Axis record insert / poster I am also selling on Ebay. They are identical when you compare the dimensions, paper, thickness and texture. There is a slight difference in the colours of the background and text, but this is to be expected with any print run, but in every other way, they are exactly the same!
For some reason, the number 086932 has been stamped (not printed) on the front and back of the poster!
I cannot see any reason why anyone except the original printers would have stamped a number. It wouldn’t make sense, unless it refers to a print run, or a dedicated serial number? It is also a very odd number, which I am unable to explain! I can only assume that at some time, due to the rarity of the poster, (not every Stereo or Mono Axis was issued with a poster) that Track records wanted them to be serial numbered, but changed their minds at some point!
The only difference when comparing the two posters together is that this poster has been folded to reveal the back, whilst the other Mono poster I am listing (and others I have seen) have been folded to show the front, but maybe that’s just coincidental!
The original poster is very clean and retains its glossy appearance. All text is clearly readable. There are some very small creases but no tears, writing, pinholes or sellotape marks and no signs that the poster has ever been hung for display.
THE LABELS:
1ST PRESS WIDE RIM TRACK LABELS
The labels are in near mint condition!
These are the matt black Track labels, with the wide rim around the spindle hole.
The labels are in near mint condition, with no scuffs, marks, writing, tears, or stickers and with clean spindle holes. The silver text is very clean and shiny. The labels show signs of a few plays and the holes are very tight and clean with no scuffs.
THE RECORD:
1ST PRESS A/1 B/1 MATRIX NUMBERS
The playing surfaces are in excellent condition!
The heavy record is flat, very glossy and clean, with no scuffs, with some tiny scratches and a few paper lines. The run ins for each track are near silent. This record plays very loud!
There are no sticks, skips, distorted sound, hisses, groove wear or background noises. There is the occasional short pop and crackle on a section of EXP, but few others elsewhere on the record.
Pure clean original stereo sound at it’s very best!
All grading is strictly within the UK Rare Record Collectors Grading Criteria!
Any help or theories with the numbered poster would be appreciated!
