·       Original, first pressing Track labels (such as the ones we have here) have a slightly different texture to the paper, but the single most important difference between the first and later Track/Polydor pressings is the catalogue number on the label:  On the left side of the center hole, the catalogue number is repeated above the bold silver print in small print, inverted in a bracket, i.e. upside down. In other words it can be read regardless of which way up you hold the record. Those bracketed catalogue numbers end with a capital "A" or "B" per side, on both record's labels this is only found on the very first pressing (please see the image of the labels shown above, for illustration).

Jimi Hendrix's third and final album with the original Experience found him taking his funk and psychedelic sounds to the absolute limit. The result was not only one of the best rock albums of the era, but also Hendrix's original musical vision at its absolute apex. When revisionist rock critics refer to him as the maker of a generation's mightiest dope music, this is the album they're referring to. But Electric Ladyland is so much more than just background music for chemical intake. Kudos to engineer Eddie Kramer for taking Hendrix's visions of a soundscape behind his music and giving it all context, experimenting with odd mic techniques, echo, backward tape, flanging, and chorusing, all new techniques at the time, at least the way they're used here. What Hendrix sonically achieved on this record expanded the concept of what could be gotten out of a modern recording studio in much the same manner as Phil Spector had done a decade before with his Wall of Sound. As an album this influential (and as far as influencing a generation of players and beyond, this was his ultimate statement for many), the highlights speak for themselves: "Crosstown Traffic," his reinterpretation of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower," "Burning of the Midnight Lamp," the spacy "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn to Be)," and "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)," a landmark in Hendrix's playing. With this double set (now on one compact disc), Hendrix once again pushed the concept album to new horizons.

Following the first two Jimi Hendrix' albums, instantly acclaimed as classics, Electric Ladyland propelled Jimi Hendrix into the Olympian stratosphere (indeed, portions of the album sound as if they were recorded on a lonely, wind-swept mountain peak). After this album, there was no doubt in anyone's mind: Jimi had absolutely no peers of any kinds whatsoever and was the new Electric Guitar "God". He would remain one until this day.  The album features an incredible cast of characters and supporting crew, some of whom are UNCREDITED. Al Kooper, Steve Winwood and Jefferson Airplane's Jack Cassady are known to have played on the sessions and are officially credited; Johnny Winter, Stephen Stills and Jim Morrison (whose murmuring and drunken rants can purportedly be heard in the background of "Voodoo Chile (slight return)" are rumored to be among the guests. For its extraordinary contribution to the modern music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, writers and general public, or for some other innate quality, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, legendary BBC Radio A&R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals (including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye , Bruce Morrow (a/k/a "Cousin Brucie"), Tim Rice (of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Evita" fame), Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton (who wrote liner notes for Bob Dylan's first album), Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc.). (a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record comes in the original poly-lined “Made in Great Britain” stock inner sleeve (only one sleeve; the other is missing and has been replaced with a generic white poly-lined sleeve)

(c)           The records are pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
