Electric Ladyland  by The Jimi Hendrix Experience was first released in September 1968 in the USA on Reprise Records and October 1968 on Track Record here in the UK with blue text. This was to be The Jimi Hendrix Experience's 3rd & final self produced studio album, and notably recorded at peak of Jimi's musical carrier. 

The gatefold cover sold in shops enclosed in a simple brown paper bag, has a hi-gloss laminated inside & out, designed by David King, a  one-piece front/back spread, with 'naked ladies' photographed by David Montgomery, glued to a one-piece left/right inside spread. The lamination on Track issues is generally in found in poor condition, leaving exposed print on the two opening edges which can suffer from mis-handling. Bubbling, creasing & de-lamination are commonly found on these gatefolds and ring wear is highlighted by matting of the gatefold, thus perfection is always hard find with early examples.  The gatefolds and their wear problems were recognised by Polydor, and the laminate process  would be improved on later with Polydor issues. 

The vinyl within has the significant hand-etched changes to the wax matrix stamped ID that denotes these vinyl's are early 2nd pressings. Decision to auto-couple resulted in the runout changes to the '8' & '9' and sides order. The 'hi-dynamic' of the mix was found to cause needles to 'jump' on less expensive turntables of the time. In simple terms, Polydor repressed a 'lower mix' for the Track releases, followed by a third press on Track and then into the Polydor issues. There is a subtle label change between 1st & 2nd press, both having inverted catalogue numbers. 'Side A' 1st press has "Electric Ladyland" overlapping the centre indent and there is a small gap between the words "Jimi Hendrix" & "A.Schroeder Music". 'Side A' 2nd press has "Electric Ladyland" clear of the indent. The unit of text has moved down, so that "Jimi Hendrix" is closer to "A.Schroeder Music" which is now closer to the "Made in Britain" at the foot of the label. The final assurance of the earliest 2nd pressing is the white poly-lined inner sleeves with punched label holes, bearing the blue imprint "Made in England" in the bottom-right corner. The later pressings in the later covers do not have inverted cat  numbers over the 613008 or 613009.
 

THE GATEFOLD SLEEVE:.. The sleeve is in excellent condition with some light creasing to the opening sides. The laminate is adhered well to the card surface and shows no signs of bubbling or lifting commonly found with this sleeve. The spine shows little wear, however there is some storage wear to the extreme corners, images further on show the condition of the sleeve. Graded EX

THE LABELS:.. The labels are all very clean and free of writing and although a few spindle marks are noted these are light. Graded EX 

THE VINYL:.. Both vinyl's are flat when viewed on rotating turntable. The vinyl surfaces have faint sleeve removal lines when viewed under normal daylight conditions and a couple of light hairlines. Side D has a small scratch at the intro of  track one, however being a loud track it is hard to note a pop during this 1/4"/ 6mm scratch. Audio is clear and although quitter sections/intros have faintest of static tics in places all four sides play with excellent sound quality, and without distortion, or background noise issues. AUDIO QUALITY

The Audio quality has been play graded using my Pro-Ject Xtension 10 turntable with Ortofon 2M Black cartridge and diamond Stylus.

POSTAGE AND PACKING

Postage within the UK for this record is £3.65 for recorded delivery. I only use brand new high quality record mailers. All records are removed from Cover sleeve before packing. The record and its sleeve are sealed in a plastic outer to prevent any possible moisture touching this record during postage. I use stiffeners to protect the record. I can combine postage for more than one record, costs varies for weight, so please message me. I can also for extra cost pack your record into mailing box for added protection. Records can be insured before mailing at extra cost. All records sent Overseas will be packed as above, however mailing boxes are better for long-haul shipments and I use them for valuable records. I will use Royal Mail, either Airmail or Airsure for overseas please message me for these shipping costs. The image below is the how I package the records that I sell from my collection.

RECORD COLLECTORS GRADING SYSTEM

MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and extra items are in perfect condition. Records advertised sealed or un-played should be mint.

EXCELLENT The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD the record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover suffers from folding scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.
