"DOWN TO EARTH"
by
JIMMY BUFFETT
(U.S. Barnaby Records, Z 30093, stereo) 1971?
Demonstration copy with (stock?) blue + white labels.

EX / VG+ (rec/cvr) Nice, clean disc, no scratches; very few, faint scuffs.
Overall, the cover is in beautiful. The cover image is sharp and bright, not faded. There is no ring wear or any other sort of scuffing or creasing. All four corners of sleeve have very light foxing. The bottom seam has mild to moderate wear, no splitting; the spine and top seam are solid. Back cover has a large red "Demo / Not For Sale" stamp dead center. My pictures clearly show some wear on the back cover (including a long, thin "scratch"), but the cover is smooth and does not appear damaged. I've never seen this record before; it's possible (?) that the wear is a photographic effect...I don't know. I grade the cover a solid/ strong VG+.

An extremely rare, hardly-released debut album from Jimmy Buffett. According to some estimates I have read, less than 500 copies of this LP were released at the time, making it quite difficult to find. The songwriting shows clear signs of the direction he would take as he developed as an artist (observational, slice-of-life songs, laced with humor) but "Down To Earth" will appeal to many beyond strictly fans/ collectors of the artist. Anyone interested in psychedelic/ counterculture music from this era would do well to take a listen as well.
Below, you will find mp3 excerpts of the entire album:
