Jimmy Dee rockabilly rarity
ROCK TICK TOCK (1959)
Here's a great slice of Texas rockabilly. Usually with Jimmy Dee, you see his recording of "Henrietta." The record was from the summer of '57 and is one of the best lurching, churning, rockin' numbers from South Texas. A honkin' sax, a gruff vocal and a plea for the love of the goddess "Henrietta." He followed it up with another great rocker called "You're Late Miss Kate." Just like the first one, it too started out on TNT Records in San Antonio, Texas then was picked up by Dot for national release.
Few realize that there was a third release, another great single that was on TNT, but never was picked up by Dot. Both sides were solid rockabillies and it hit the streets in January of 1959.
The topside would seem to be "I Feel Like Rockin' which is a great little number with a killer guitar break, a really long one too.
But turn the platter over and you'll hear "Rock-Tick-Tock" which is even better! It starts off with a cuckoo clock, but soon turns into a rollickin' number with a band that seems to be about to fall apart at the seams. Ecstasy!
