JIMMY HEATH – Love and Understanding (1973) Muse-5028 – M-/M- (cover/vinyl)

A totally killer early set on Muse by the great tenor and saxophonist Jimmy Heath joined by Curtis Fuller on trombone, Stanley Cowell on piano and electric piano, Bob Cranshaw on Fender bass and Billy Higgins on drums. This is deep modal groove with “One For Juan,” “In A Sentimental Mood,” “Hands Up! Feet Down!,” “Fa Away Lands,” “Smilin’ Billy” and “Gemini.” Stanley Cowell was recording for Strata-East Records at the time, and this is reminiscent of the vibe there. Tough LP that doesn’t turn up.

This is a beautiful copy. The cover is tight and crisp and intact with no wear. The vinyl is clean and glossy and looks unplayed. I grade this conservatively: M-/M- (cover/vinyl).
