JIMMY PAGE LED ZEPPELIN SHE JUST SATISFIES TEST PRESS!!
" B " SIDE THE CREATION SWEET HELEN GARAGE PSYCH DOUBLE
JIMMY PAGE
"Before he became a guitar god with Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page was a guitarist for hire, bouncing from studio to studio while lending his growing talents to a host of British beat groups. "She Just Satisfies," is a tough and rollicking chunk of Bo Diddley inspired garage rock with Page's vocals coming off surprisingly strong."
THE CREATION
The Creation were like a pop-art movement all by themselves (!) and Eddie Phillips' quote 'Our music is red with purple flashes' is actually a oddly apt description of their sound.
Also being a mod British group featuring the wonderful guitar playing of Eddie Phillips, who, it was said, was once asked to join the Who as a 2nd guitarist. He does indeed sound like Pete Townsend at his most anarchic.
Similar in many respects to early Who aurally (also produced by Shel Talmy) yet more jarring, more colourful, not quite as slick. This though is a saving grace as their sometimes 'raw' sound (augmented by Phillips' power chords and his use of a bow on his electric guitar ~ pre-dating Jimmy Page in this respect) was utterly fantastic.
The Creation crystalised an era in which British beat was transforming itself into psychedelia. The process led to records rooted in pop but recorded with wide-eyed aggression, cranked-up amps and excessive use of guitar pedals - creating a new style now known as freakbeat. In a nutshell, pop was giving birth to rock.
