Description
ARTIST : JOHN BYRD BAND ft. ALEX CHILTON
TITLES : Side A; “Earh Man Blues” (John Byrd) / Side B “Friend at a very good time” (John Byrd)
LABEL and Catalogue No : Power Play PP 1957 (Henry Loeb’s Memphis label)
This is a single is a curious one-off from the somewhat mysterious John Byrd Band featuring Alex Chilton as a guest vocalist on both sides. The recording took place at Ardent during Chilton's "annus horribilis" 1976. That year, Alex played drums with The Randy Hull Band and even turned up in Toronto, Ontario to play with The Bad Acoustics.
The 45 was issued in 1977 on local Memphis label PowerPlay who also released The Scruffs.
This John Byrd is not the soul man assosciated with Muscle Shoal Studios, but rather a local Memphis player. The only member that I have any info about is Haines Fullerton, who later played with and wrote songs for The Dave Matthews band during their break-thru phase.

Please see my other auction for that ultimate Ardent Artifact ; The original 1975 pressing of Big Star's Third / Sister Lovers.
ITEM CONDITION : Both labels and vinyl are in impeccable NEAR MINT condition. The sleeve is made of flimsy paper so thin that it almost resembles the texture of rice paper. Since it cannot be "unwrinkled" I would have to grade it VG+ due to the creasing.
Good luck and happy bidding, and please do ask for additional photos or information.
PAYMENT TERMS : I expect the auction to be paid for within 1 week of auction closing.
SHIPPING RATES : US $ 10.00 for Air priority shipping to any European destination. Air priority shipping to anywhere outside Europe is US $ 13.50.
Shipments from Norway are very safe, but please take into account that I do not accept responsibility for items lost in the mail !! With that in mind, you may seriously consider to add US $ 10.00 to the total for registered and insured shipping to avoid any postal accidents !
