Up for bid is a rare Blue Note record by John Coltrane. The title is Blue Train. The record is in fair shape. It has several scratches on both sides. It has a good shine to it. It is listenable but not really enjoyable listening. I played both sides and it has background hiss and some popping through out the record. There are some parts tht sound pretty good though. The label on Side 1 is faded but is in good shape. Side 2 is clear but does have a 1/4" pen mark above the hole. Both sides are labeled "BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC 47 WEST 63rd NYC". Both sides have the ear on the trail off along with RVG stamped in the wax and has BN-LP-1577A/B etched into the trail off. I first thought that this record was released in 1962, but I now think it was released in 1965. According to my Goldmdine Jazz Album Price Guide book this record has some different traits than the 1962 release. The deep groove is on Side 1 but the groove on Side 2 is less defined. This was supposed to be the case when Liberty bought them out in 1966. There is also a little R trademark under the NOTE on Side 2. It looks like their is two different labels used for this record. I don't know how the deep grooves are made but it looks like the record has two different type grooves before the Label was applied. The cover is in pretty good shape with the following exceptions. All four corners are messed up. the top left hand corner has a 1 inch paper tear where the paper is pulled back. It might can be glued back down. There is a BB sized tear on the bottom edge about an inch from the left side. The glossy covering is also coming up on the edge where the record goes into the sleeve. The back is in good shape and looks cleaner than the pictures show. The address on the bottom of the back is listed as "For Complete Catalog Write to BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC., 43 West 61st St., New York 23". The sleeve has different Blue Note records and 1939-1965 26 YEARS BLUE NOTE THE FIRST NAME IN JAZZ across the top of both sides. At the bottom of one side has BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC. 43 West 61st St. New York 23, N. Y. The book does not mention these sleeves but this dates the record to 1965 at the earliest unless this is not an original sleeve. This will make a good filler record that would look good framed for the record collector that does not have this record until they can up grade to a better one. Do not buy this record to listen to for listening enjoyment.
