On offer is an LP by JOHN JAMES called MORNING BRINGS THE LIGHT from 1970, on TRANSATLANTIC, catalogue number TRA 219.
JOHN JAMES “a shy unassuming Welshman” (according to the sleeve-notes) is the arch exponent of a style that flourished briefly in the early seventies, when acoustic, ragtime-tinged guitar accompanied sensitive self-penned songs, and, while it lasted, the world seemed a more gentle place. Morning Brings the Light is a classic of the genre, and intersperses sweet melancholia with Mississippi-derived finger-picking.
MORNING BRINGS THE LIGHT is in EXCELLENT condition with a shiny lustre, no scratches, no scuffmarks, no pops, no sticking and no background noise. The labels - with a little 't' and globe logo, denoting the earliest pressing of this LP - are clean, with no writings or spindle-wear. The cover is similarly EXCLLENT, with minimal wear to the white, matt sleeve.

The record comes from the collection of the late Ian Chappell, director of the Hampshire-based South Eastern Museums Service. A devoted collector of folk music, Chappell would obsessively buy multiple copies of the same record in search of vinyl perfection. They were acquired by the seller at auction from Omega Auctions of Stockport in June 2012.
