JOHN LENNON "IMAGINE'" Original 1971 U.S. Apple Records stereo LP w/glossy laminated cover, custom inner sleeve, poster & post card. 10 track post-Beatles classic w/"Imagine" & "Jealous Guy". SW-3379. M-/MINT!
After the raw emotion of the Plastic Ono Band album, John Lennon returned to calmer, more conventional territory with Imagine. While the album had a softer surface, it was only marginally less confessional than its predecessor. Underneath the sweet strings of "Jealous Guy" (new lyrics were added to the 1968 Beatles demo “Child Of Nature”) lies a broken and scared man, the jaunty "Crippled Inside" is a mocking assault at an acquaintance, and "Imagine" (a #3 hit upon release in 1971 & his most enduring solo record) is a paean for peace in a world with no gods, possessions, or classes, where everyone is equal. And Lennon doesn't shy away from the hard rockers -- "How Do You Sleep" is a scathing attack on Paul McCartney, "I Don't Want to Be a Soldier" is a hypnotic antiwar song, and "Give Me Some Truth" is bitter hard rock. If Imagine doesn't have the thematic sweep of Plastic Ono Band, it is nevertheless a remarkable collection of songs that Lennon would never be able to better again.

Glossy, laminated cover is intact & retains its original look w/no writing or tears. There is very minor shelf wear & edge & corner wear which detract it from a MINT rating although it still looks fantastic. Overall the cover rates a M- grading. The record itself looks & sounds great w/very little play. Overall grading is MINT. Complete with the custom inner sleeve which has small photos of the people involved in making this album along w/album credits on one side with the lyrics on the back. It is intact w/no split seams in M condition. The custom label on side 1 has a b&w photo of John while side 2 is the traditional Apple label. There are no spindle marks on either side. Complete with the folded, unused b&w poster of John playing his white grand piano & the b&w postcard of John parodying Paul's "Ram" cover. This is an original U.S. pressing from 1971. You'll be hard pressed to find one in better shape!
