**JOHN LENNON - "SINGS THE GREAT ROCK & ROLL HITS" (ROOTS)** **Guaranteed Genuine 1975 US True First Pressing | Adam VIII Ltd.** **Catalog: A 8018 | Mastered at Bell Sound | PLAYED ONLY ONCE – TRUE MINT ARCHIVE**
Up for sale is an absolute Holy Grail of rock vinyl history: a 100% verified authentic, genuine 1975 true first pressing of John Lennon’s legendary withdrawn album, "Roots" (officially titled "John Lennon Sings the Great Rock & Roll Hits").
Rushed to market via late-night television mail-order advertisements in February 1975 by Morris Levy using unpolished rough rehearsal mixes, this album was instantly withdrawn following a swift legal injunction by John Lennon, Apple Records, and Capitol Records. The courts ordered the immediate halt of production and the total destruction of all inventory. Only an estimated 3,000 copies survived the shredder, making it one of the rarest commercial LPs in the entire Beatles solo catalog.
This is a pristine, guaranteed authentic archive piece, preserved flawlessly and played exactly once on a high-end tracking system.
**PROVENANCE & RUNOUT MASTER IDENTIFIERS (SEE PHOTOS):** To satisfy high-end collector vetting, this disc features the definitive structural matrix codes stamped by the premier New York mastering house: - **Side 1 Runout (Machine-Stamped & Hand-Etched):** "A 8018 A" alongside the definitive italicized machine stamp "BELL SOUND" and the hand-etched cursive script signature "Joe" (mastering engineer Joe Brescio). - **Side 2 Runout (Machine-Stamped & Hand-Etched):** "A 8018 B" with the matching "BELL SOUND" machine stamp and "Joe" script etching. - **Sleeve Construction:** Authentic heavy-card matte jacket printed on proper vintage white poster board (not grey cardboard). - **Typography:** Crisp, clean text separation on the front/back borders, with sharp, fully legible print on the rear "Soul Train" and "Solid Gold" album advertisements.
**CONDITION GRADING:** - **Vinyl Disc:** MINT (M). Outstanding factory gloss and mirror-like luster across both sides. Meticulously handled, stored in an anti-static sleeve, and played exactly once. Center orange Adam VIII labels are immaculate with zero spindle marks or wear. - **Outer Sleeve:** EXCELLENT PLUS (EX+). A beautiful, rigid, vibrant jacket. The spine is perfectly square, straight, and reads "John Lennon sings the GREAT rock & roll hits" accurately. Corners are remarkably sharp with entirely solid seams and absolutely no splits or tape repairs. Faint, completely natural age-toning to the white reverse side consistent with a 50+ year old archive piece.
**TRACKLIST VARIATIONS:** Includes raw, unpolished early arrangements that differ completely from the official EMI "Rock 'n' Roll" album, including two tracks ("Angel Baby" and "Be My Baby") that were entirely omitted from the standard retail release!
An investment-grade trophy piece for a definitive Beatles or John Lennon collection.
