Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have acquired over a period of more than 45 years! Here is a 1st UK pressing of John Mayall "Turning Point' a mesmorizing album to listen to throughout. A Blues progressive rock album touching on Jazz feel. The vinyls playing surface is lovely and clean with the stunning audio graded very near mint through out. The audio is rich and vibrant only heard like this on the original early pressings and interference is minimal in my opinion! The 1st issue un-laminated cover printed by MacNeil Press gatefold cover is also in exceptional condition for a 45 year old album now deleted very rare to find and collectable like this indeed.

The Turning Point is a live album by John Mayall, featuring British blues music recorded at a concert at Bill Graham's Fillmore East on 12 July 1969.




When John Mayall was starting another band after the break-up of the Bluesbreakers in May 1969, he decided to have a band that would play "low volume music" – or music without "heavy lead guitar and drums".




The performers on the album were Mayall on vocals, harmonica, a slide and a Fender Telecaster guitar, a tambourine, and mouth percussion, Jon Mark on acoustic guitar, Steve Thompson on bass, and Johnny Almond on tenor and alto saxophones, flutes, and mouth percussion.




All the songs on the album were written or co-written by John Mayall. Thompson co-wrote California, Thoughts About Roxanne and Don't Waste My Time.




Another track, "I'm Gonna Fight For You, J.B.," is a tribute to the American blues guitarist J. B. Lenoir who died in 1967 and who had a deep influence on Mayall (this was Mayall's second such tribute to the musician; "The Death of J.B. Lenoir" appeared on his earlier Crusade album). Two concerts took place, on 11 and 12 July.

The album was produced by John Mayall, who also designed the packaging and was the album's art director. The recording engineer was Eddie Kramer, who had engineered Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, among others.

The Vinyl

This is the original and heavier and thicker \ deeper grooved type of vinyl only found on these early pressings! Later press were much more flimsier and less robust.

On initial visual inspection the vinyl playing surface is nice and clean. The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable (Note, I have double checked this there is no warping),  and still retains its original sheen from new and looks absolutely superbe, In fact it is hard for me to even see any scratches on the surface at all,, at least nothing that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops.  Any other marks that could possibly be seen angled to strong light would be light whyspy sleeve removal type scuffs only! Importantly I can see (no) needle or audio sounding marks that would cause loud annoying constant clicks or pops! It is obvious that this has been played but certainly not overplayed in my opinion.

The audio quality

I have played this vinyl track for track two times at very loud volume prior to this listing, on a top system  In my opinion it is obvious to me that visualy and audibly from the moment that the needle hits the playing surface that this vinyl has had minimal play only in my opinion.  The audio is clear sharp and very vibrant through out! Stunning top audio on my systems any static/ticks heard in quieter places are isolated and is very minor in my opinion and could do with a constant cleaning before play because this has been stored dormant for over 40 years!

The audio is awesome crystal clear and vibrant through out! Please note! With (no) signs of distortion or any signs of grooveware! Being the original 1st UK pressing makes this one of the most vibrant sounding vinyls of this pressing that I have heard, such as real pleasure to play, Please look at my completed listing of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! THOSE WHO KNOW ABOUT THE RECORDS THAT I LIST WOULD KNOW THAT MY PRIME INTEREST IS THE AUDIO QUALITY IT IS MY OPINION AFTER PLAYING THIS ALBUM A FEW TIMES THE AUDIO IS GRADED AT THE TOP!  Please take the time to listen to the complete album in the player above digitally recorded and is much more unforgiving than analogue systems but a good way to hear any imperfections in my opinion!  I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to very near mint for the most part!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this album and those who know the listings and vinyls that i sell my prime interest is the audio quality! Please allow for the odd isolated static ticks in quieter places but not consistent  through out the audio! (It is noted that I heard light isolated ticks during two or three quieter places to mention) but nothing too bad in my opinion. This is a genuine (not) reissue vinyl that is 45 years old and would have been played on a system that is 45 years old!

Please note, this album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 45 years or more. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static\ crackle. A constant clean before each play is recommended. This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality.

Points to note, I notice debrit on the playing surface after play so this will need cleaning before each play which will further enhance this audio quality.

The labels

These feature the Polydor labels (only 1st press)  These are in superb condition. Spidering can be seen when angled to the light this has obviously been played but certainly not over played in my opinion.  No spindle ware around the the hole this is perfectly round. (UK pressing)

The cover

The cover has always been stored separately from the vinyl in a case for over 40 years!

This is the 1st issue, 1st UK un-aminated MacNeil Press Printed cover Printed in England  by MacNeil Press! I can see no real nasty creases, any creases there are to mention are light and yo have to look to notice in my opinion. There is just light evedence of storageware bumping only at the corners. Any rubbing wear you have to look hard to see any at the edges. All text is visable and readable. Any marks or indents are only really noticed if looked for when angled in the light.  No rubbing at the spine to report. no real ringwear. I would grade this cover at least excellent plus in my opinion.

The record sleeve

This is the original poly lined Decca Stereo sleeve minor light general creasings with age. (see photos) No splits or tears, lovely clean and white without the normal staining often seen.  This is the original!

I have had 100% positive feedback since I have been trading on ebay for the last 10 years, so please bid with total confidance!
