UK DECCA (SKL 4804) FIRST *STEREO* PRESSING OF JOHN MAYALL AND ERIC CLAPTON'S FANTASTIC "Blues Breakers" LP - POSSIBLY THE FINEST BRITISH BLUES ALBUM EVER MADE

ORIGINALLY RELEASED IN 1966 (IN MONO ONLY) IT WAS NOT UNTIL LATE 1969, WHEN DECCA WAS PHASING OUT MONO PRODUCTION, THAT THIS LP WAS ISSUED IN THE STEREO FORMAT
THIS WAS ALSO JUST AT THE TIME DECCA WERE CHANGING THEIR LABEL DESIGN TO THE BOXED LOGO SO NOT MANY OF THESE UNBOXED FIRST STEREO PRESSES WERE MADE AND THEN ONLY AVAILABLE FOR A VERY SHORT TIME IN LATE '69 - WHICH MAKES THIS UNBOXED STEREO VERSION SO HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER

Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton was Eric Clapton's first fully realised album as a blues guitarist -- more than that, it was a seminal blues album of the 1960s, perhaps the best British blues album ever cut, and the best LP ever recorded by John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.
Standing midway between Clapton's stint with the Yardbirds and the formation of Cream, this album featured the new guitar hero on a series of stripped-down blues standards, Mayall pieces, and one Mayall/Clapton composition, all of which had him stretching out in the idiom for the first time in the studio.
This album was the culmination of a very successful year of playing with John Mayall, a fully realised blues creation, featuring sounds very close to the group's stage performances, and with no compromises.
Credit has to go to producer Mike Vernon for the purity and simplicity of the record; most British producers of that era wouldn't have been able to get it recorded this way, much less released.
One can hear the very direct influence of Buddy Guy and a handful of other American bluesmen in the playing. And lest anyone forget the rest of the quartet: future pop/rock superstar John McVie and drummer Hughie Flint provide a rock-hard rhythm section, and Mayall's organ playing, vocalising, and second guitar are all of a piece with Clapton's work. His guitar naturally dominates most of this record, and he can also be heard taking his first lead vocal, but McVie and Flint are just as intense and give the tracks an extra level of steel-strung tension and power, none of which have diminished across several decades.

LABELS: The labels are clean, bright and unmarked with moderate spindle traces - EXCELLENT
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen and are practically unmarked - there is some faint transfer from the plastic lining of the inner (from years of storage) but this really is hardly noticeable and barely worth a mention and it has no audio consequence - EXCELLENT+
VINYL Audio: Sensational audio quality throughout - crystal clear, clean, rich and warm sound (another tremendous cut from Decca demonstrating why they are so highly regarded as producers of some of the finest sounding records of the period). On playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my records prior to listing and its always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there are no scratches, no sticks/jumps, no clicks pops and no real surface noise (the run-ins and track divisions are practically silent). And even though the record has seen moderate play over the years the audio quality is incredibly impressive - crystal clear and clean with no groove-wear and no distortion. Critically graded NEAR MINT for audio - it sounds fantastic
SLEEVE: The front laminated sleeve is also in very nice condition. The front laminate is unmarked with a deep, glossy sheen. There is some creasing to the front across the opening edge but nothing too major. The edges and spine are crisp with no storage wear to speak of - all text on the spine (which is 'pinched' at the top and bottom) is clear and bold. The unlaminated back has a few light marks but there is no unwanted writing or wear. Overall, a fine example of this sleeve - EXCELLENT
The original Decca inner is clean and unmarked with just a few creases and age-related discolouration to the white portions but there are no splits and the poly lining is firmly fixed - EXCELLENT
