JOHN SURMAN et al – Where Fortune Smiles DAWN LP / DNLS 3018 (UK, Stereo, 1971)
Happy to present this rare Brit free jazz offering. This LP saw Surman collaborate with Stu Martin, Karl Berger, John McLaughlin and Dave Holland and I can bring it to you in superb, near untouched condition with its original insert.
The heavy matt gatefold sleeve is in great condition and shows no creases at all – either outside or inside the gate. There is no sign of ring impression, no writing and no splits. The only signs away from mint are: light to moderate rubbing to the top and bottom edges; slight corner rubs; a couple of tiny areas of paper loss to the front and (very) minimal rubs to the spine which maintains its definition and is not squashed. Lies perfectly flat without rippling and I’m hoping you’ll agree when I grade it full EX (Excellent).
The labels are near perfect, one spindle trace to one side only. No writing, soiling or stickers.
The fold over insert is also virtually as new with no real signs of handling; no creases or foxing spots and of course no writing.
The solid, medium weight vinyl is a real top example. Next to no marking at all to my eyes after close examination in both broad daylight and under strong artificial light. That means NO scratches, scuffs, hairlines, dust pockets or embedded dirt. There’s just one tiny nick between the 2 tracks on Side 2 which has no effect on the audio. Grades a visual M- (Mint Minus). IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays as it looks – superbly. So expect no snap, crackle or pop, no hiss or distortion or loss of clarity. And of course no jumps or repeats. Play grade matches the visual one.
