Description
John Taverner - 'The Whale'. SAPCOR 15
John Taverner 1970 UK 1st FACTORY SAMPLE DEMO Apple pressing of 'The Whale' LP. Released on the 25th September 1970, this is one the rarest Apple LP's to obtain in any condition. Offered here with simply STUNNING MINT- condition vinyl. This has been fully play tested and sounds amazing, just as it should with NO faults. It would not be possible to upgrade from this unless you came across a factory sealed 1970 copy.
These initial early factory sample pressings would have usually been given out to reviewers, radio stations or used as quality control within the pressing plant. Released on the 'Apple Records' label this 1970 1st UK pressing is on the dark Apple label. It comes housed within the original and correct gatefold sleeve.
From the very beginning of his career John Taverner was regarded as a musical prodigy. 'The Whale' was his first recorded performance and still remains one of his career highlights. In 1968, at the age of 24 Taverner was described by the Guardian newspaper as 'the musical discovery of the year', while the Times newspaper said he was 'among the very best creative talents of his generation'. During his career he has become one of the best known and regarded composers of his generation. Tavener was knighted in 2000 for his services to music.
