SHORT BIO

A contemporary of Elvis Presley in the Memphis scene of the mid-'50s, Johnny Burnette played a similar brand of fiery, spare wildman rockabilly. With his brother Dorsey (on bass) and guitarist Paul Burlison forming his Rock ‘N Roll Trio, he recorded a clutch of singles for Decca in 1956 and 1957 that achieved nothing more than regional success. Featuring the groundbreaking fuzzy tone of  Burlison’s guitar, Johnny's energetic vocals, and Dorsey’s slapping bass, these recordings -- highlighted by the first rock & roll version of "Train Kept a-Rollin'" -- compare well to the classic Sun rockabilly of the same era. The trio disbanded in 1957, and JohnnyYou're Sixteen" and "Dreamin'." Burnette died in a boating accident in 1964. His brother, Dorsey, achieved modest success as a solo act in the early '60s, and Burlison recently resurfaced as a member of the Sun Rhythm Section. found pop success as a teen idol in the early '60s with hits like "

This 45 is on the Coral Records label #0-61651.          

CONDITION

OK this one looks like a “beater”, but it was the only one I could find at the time I was looking, and I felt that “something was better than nothing”.

Vinyl: Grading is by visual inspection only.  I’d rate it at VG.  The surfaces look pretty sad, but the doggone thing plays through with no skips, or pops.  It, in fact, plays better than some other 45s that look better.

Labels: There is soiling/ring-wear, and sticker on the A-side, a couple of white spots. But no stamps, or drill holes. 

The 45 will come in a plain brown sleeve, and will be shipped in a mailing carton specifically designed for shipping 45s, or in a “sandwich” of two layers of heavy cardboard securely taped on either side of the 45 or 45s.  The protection afforded to your 45 with these four cardboard squares is at least as good as the protection afforded by the specially designed mailer.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  I have collected over 800 45s over the past several years.  My intention was to mat them with signatures of the artists that produced them.  I have 476 autographs of pop, rock, blues, country, and R&B artists to go along with these 45s.  I now find that the project is too grand, and I’m getting too old to pull it off.  When I purchased these 45s, they were the best that I could buy off of eBay and/or GEMM at the time.  I only took the cream of the crop.  Since I was going to mat them, I was interested primarily in their visual appearance, particularly the label.  I didn’t even have a turntable. 

I started selling these and other 45s a couple of weeks ago, and was disappointed in how, in too many cases, the prices realized for the 45s in great condition were the prices I remember “beater” copies selling for.  Folks, with perhaps but a couple of exceptions (because nothing better was available at the time) these are definitely not “beaters”.  I can’t let them go for $0.99 like many did in the first batch I put up for bids.  I can get that without going to the trouble of posting them on eBay.  My prices for the better quality 45s will now be elevated some, but even at that they will represent a decent bargain.  The 45s of lesser quality, and those without picture sleeves will open at $0.99 as before.

NOTE:  I’ve been told that Italy, Spain, and other countries do not provide the best postal service, and that delivery of items can take several weeks.  I have no personal experience with this at this point, but my foreign buying friends, please keep this in mind if and when your patience begins to wear thin.  I can only assure you that I’ll mail your item out in a timely way.  I cannot assure you that you’ll receive it in a timely way.

ALL SALES FINAL! –  In talking with other sellers, I’ve been told that, when it comes to audio media in any form, it has become all too commonplace for buyers to rip or record the material  they like, and then want to return the item for a refund.  Under this circumstance, it would be impractical for me to adopt a “satisfaction guaranteed” policy.  Look – I’ve been involved in over 3000 eBay transactions as a buyer and have a perfect feedback record even for those years when it really meant something.  On those very rare occasions in which I’ve encountered problems with others, matters were easily resolved without resorting to a third party.  Life has enough hassles without getting jacked around by people on eBay.  If I’ve screwed up – missed a huge flaw in my visual inspection, sent the wrong item, etc., I’ll make it right, but otherwise no returns on audio media please.
