Description

This is an Original Pressing of Johnny Cash's first Sun album "Johnny Cash with his Hot and Blue Guitar."

In 1970 I purchased this and several Sun Records directly from Shelby Singleton at his office and warehouse on Belmont Boulevard in Nashville, TN.  Shelby was a longtime successful record producer formerly with Mercury Records and then independently produced Jeanie C. Riley for his own Plantation label and further developed his own empire by purchasing the Sun label and entire catalog and stock and moved it from Memphis to Nashville. Shelby produced several of my records at that time. Shelby knew that I loved Johnny Cash and was a sometimes Cash song stylist as well. Shelby and some of his staff, Royce Clark, Paul Martin and Rita Remington took me through the warehouse where he had stored the old Sun records. Though I already had them I purchased several additional copies of many titles. I have kept them and now am offering them at auction. This record has never been played. It does however have one very minimal surface hairline on the first track. Aside from this the Record is in Mint Condition.  In 1956 Sun Records did not shrink wrap seal their records and the Album Cover is in Excellent Condition.  On the back cover there is spotty discoloration that was apparently caused from the storage atmosphere as it was there when I purchased it.  There is a seam split on the bottom about half way to the middle. There is no wear across the surface of the front or back. I knew Johnny Cash and performed on his show and learned every song on this album when I was still a teenager. It is a great album and truly showcases a cross section of the style and music that Johnny consistently performed throughout his career including songs of trains, prison, tragedy, joy, love, heartbreak, Gospel and Folk music.

The Titles Include:

  • The Rock Island Line
  • I Heard That Lonesome Whistle
  • Country Boy
  • If The Good Lord's Willing
  • Cry, Cry,Cry
  • Remember Me
  • So Doggone Lonesome
  • I Was There When It Happened
  • I Walk The Line
  • The Wreck Of Old '97
  • Folsom Prison Blues
  • Doin' My Time

Even the CD version of this record does not capture the warmth and feel of early Cash the way this one does when you put it on your turntable. Don't miss this record and others I will be listing in several other auctions including an unplayed 78 RPM copy of "I Walk The Line."
