Hard to find private label LP, which includes the first appearance of “I Am The Nation”, an original spoken word composition by Johnny Cash.  This is an original pressing vinyl LP of a Tennessee political album including material written by Nat Winston, Tennessee’s former Commissioner of Mental Health.  This album was produced by “Friends Of Winston” and manufactured in a very small number.

Nat Winston is best known for being responsible in helping Johnny Cash end his addiction to amphetamines and barbiturates. According to an interview with Cash on “Larry King Live”, Winston told Cash “I’m a doctor, I’m a psychiatrist, and I’ve seen a lot of people in the shape you’re in. And frankly, I don’t think there is much chance for you. I’ve never known of anyone as far gone as you are to really whip it. Only you can do it, and it would be a lot easier if you let God help you.” 

As stated in Nat Winston’s back cover liner notes about this record, he says “The icing on the cake (for this album) is an original recitation by the one man who has single-handedly influenced the thinking of America more than any other one person while maintaining political neutrality- JOHNNY CASH.” 

This record was released between 1971-1975; we are unsure of the exact date but it was while Winfield Dunn was Governor of Tennessee. There is no mention of a record label on the cover. The spine reads “Friends Of Winston” and shows the number FW-001-M. 

COVER: The cover is still in shrink wrap. It is overall very well preserved with a bit of discoloration on the back.  It grades a nice EX. 

VINYL: The record looks like it has had little play.  It does show some cosmetic surface marking from having a somewhat crinkled paper inner sleeve.  We have replaced the sleeve with a new one.  Visibly this LP grades EX.  It also has a light warp which in no way affects play.

All of our LP's are shipped in sturdy cardboard LP mailers with appropriate padding.

With the exception of sealed LP's, all LP's are removed from their outer sleeves to prevent seam splitting. Upon request, we will give your sealed LP's the same treatment.

All records are carefully graded. In an attempt to give customers an accurate impression of condition rather than adhere to somewhat arbitrary criteria, The Great Escape gives an "overall presentation" grade; we do not give a "listening" grade. Our vinyl listings are supplemented when necessary with additional remarks. For example: where some dealers will not allow a cut corner on an otherwise near mint jacket (often automatically relegating it to a VG+ at best), we may grade such a record as NM and note the cut-out mark (thereby letting you know what it "really" looks like: a near-perfect record with a cut corner). LPs are graded cover first, followed by the grade for the vinyl.
