Up for grabs is one of the rarest 60s Australian surf-exploitation lp records.....Johnny Devlin's Surf Club Stomp! Original Australian mono pressing on blue Festival Label (cat # FL-31,303).
Johnny Devlin was a New Zealand expat who found fame in Australia in the late 50s and early 60s as a teen rock n roll/rockabilly icon. Despite the name, this lp is not a true surf album, but rather an attempt to cash in on the surf/stomp music scene of the early 60s. Although it contains one original surf related tune (the classic Stomp the Tumbarumba), the album is mostly covers of standard teen rock n roll and rockabilly tunes of that era. Regardless, it's a really cool piece of 60s Australian surf memorabilia that I'm sure not a lot of collectors know about. It's extremely rare, I've never seen another copy and they rarely appear online.
Would rate cover as (G+). All seams have been taped with invisible tape.....they're actually pretty inconspicuous....I didn't even realise until I was writing this listing. There's also a couple of light tears from the opening edge that have been tape repaired from inside the sleeve, again they're hard to notice. There's some misc ring and shelf wear, spots/marks, and small writing on back. All in all it's still a fairly clean cover that presents well....it would have graded higher if not for the seam splits/repairs!
Would rate vinyl at (VG-). Retains most of its original gloss, but has numerous light scratches/scuffs. Plays with light background noise in places, and occasional light pops/ticks. Still an enjoyable listen!
Labels are both (EX-). Couple faint spindle marks but otherwise clean.
Impossible to find 60s rock n roll lp that will appeal to both collectors of 60s Australian music as well as surf memorabilia collectors. You won't see another copy of this on ebay in a hurry....grab it while you can!
