Musical Roots Juan Enrique López Llanos, born in Puerta de Tierra (1944), is a legend with over 50 years of career. Known as "El Bravo"—a title given by NYC promoter Catalino Rolón—Johnny revolutionized the sound of the combo. Self-taught on congas and bongos, he founded his own orchestra, recording over 260 songs and dozens of LPs that defined the sound of Puerto Rico. The 1967 Era In 1967, during the height of the Boogaloo craze in New York, Johnny released iconic tracks under the Maseda and Delujo labels. "Shing-A-Ling" represents his most explosive rhythmic period, blending the dynamic energy of the Bronx clubs with his unmistakable Puerto Rican "sabor".
