 I’ve had this ep for many years and it’s only recently occurred to me what probably were the events leading up to having an O’Keefe signature on a beer coaster stuck to this ep label. The previous owner must have seen JOK preforming in a pub or club and got his autograph on a beer coaster. He’s then taken it home and fixed it to his EP. I can’t verify it’s authenticity but I figure nobody in their right mind would do the above unless it was real. It looks authentic and both the coaster and the signature have faded considerably to add to it’s credibility.

A mid period EP for the great man considering his first Leedon EP was in 1957 and his last (on Festival) in 1979. He was threatened by the new sound from England. People were saying he was old fashioned and also “couldn’t sing”  True-sometimes he couldn’t hit a high note (he was no Warren Williams etc) He never would have won ‘The Voice’. But all four of these trax show him adapting to the new garage sounds coming thru (Spencer Davis etc) by doing what he was the best around Oz at. Ruff tuff raukus down ‘n’ dirty gutbucket garage vocals. I reckon he remained pre eminent here at this until the later rise of the likes of Doug Parkinson (and he was a Kiwi anyway) I’m not saying JOK was the equal of the likes of Lennon on something like “Twist & Shout” but he sure was one hell of a gutsy performer- as you’ll hear on all four of these four trax (he does one hell of a wilde tuff version of Presley’s Good Luck Charm.)

The vinyl is a strong VG visually and there’s mild surface sound in the deadwax but that’s about it. The labels are VG and the cover - which has a light name-is VG+ish. Enough of the sermon-enjoy!

 CONDITION WISE

 MINT-; In newish condition. Almost no surface marks. No deterioration in sound quality. Cover, label, extras nearly perfect.                         EXCELLENT; Shows signs of having been played, little lessening of sound quality. Cover and contents might have slight wear and/or creasing

VERY GOOD +; Obviously has been played many times. No major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Some wear and tear on cover or contents.

VERY GOOD: Played quite a few times, some deterioration in sound quality cover, label, extras. Moderate amount of wear and tear.                                                          

VERY GOOD-; Further deterioration in sound quality. Considerable wear and tear on cover and it’s contents

GOOD; Just playable. Considerable surface noise. It may even jump. Heavy scratches etc Cover has very serious problems eg defacing, staining missing pieces etc
