USA SUPERDISC HALF SPEED MASTER VINYL LP IN GATEFOLD SLEEVE. We here at Raisedonrecords are ambivilant about half-speed mastered audiophile albums, they benefit from gorgeous clean and quiet vinyl, and are packaged and presented as deluxe items, but often times the mastering leaves much to be desired, muddy, wooly and bass heavy, when compared to an original first rpessing they often pale in comparison - but there are some Nautilus discs that can stand on their own two feet (The Doobie Bros' capt and Me springs to mind), and so does this Joni mastering - whilst perhaps not as exacting in detail as original white labels or first pressings, what the Nautilus definately does achieve is it tightens up the bottom end which is bit thin on the original, and with its upper-mid boosts beings a clarity and shine to Larry Carlton's guitar parts that get a little lost on other pressings, and boy does Larry play sublimely on this album. Overall, our conclusion is that this is an audiophile pressing, it has its own distinctive mastered sound and does sound rather tasty on top end hi-fi, it may even be better than the original mastering, it is probably a matter of personal taste more than anything else. Suffice to say, this is a lovely playing copy worthy of your ears.
