Roots Reggae/Lovers Rock/One Drop Side 1. Rastafari Tell You Side 2. Rastafari Tell You (part 2)
Here's one where the roots entrench themselves so deep to the point of lo-fi, resulting in an undeniable earthiness. Just about the only peaky element on this all-telling dub joint - reissued through none other than Studio 1 - is Judah Tafari's nasally voice, intoning in loyal Waterhouse style. 'Rastafari Tell You' from 1979 is a timeless Coxsone Dodd production, serving deep Brentford Road atmosphere and wise Biblical words, a message as strong as the rhythm. Roots heads still speak of records like these in hushed tones, and there's no telling just how many more late 70s session vintages like this are left in the cellar.
