JUDSON FOUNTAIN

SANDERS RECORDING 6122, 1972

ONE OF THE WEIRDEST RECORDS

I'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED!

I have one of the largest "song poem" record collections there is and go back to the Ardolino days with those discs.  I have collected private press, school band recordings, etc. for years and years.  I am drawn to music I have never heard, performed by people I have never heard on record labels I have never heard of.  I love innocence, uniqueness, sincerity and individual expression.  I am not a "Johnny come lately" to the world of unusual recordings.

I've got to tell you - this is a very unique, and I have to say strange, private press recording.  It is incredibly primitive and simplistic, self-serving and "retro" in the sense that these were all created as radio dramas (or "drammers" as it is pronounced on the record).  It's maybe a step above what you might have created as an elementary school kid with an old tape recorder.  Totally predictable plots, lots of screaming and some of the most grating character voices I have ever heard.  Sanders Recording was a place on 48th Street in Manhattan where anyone could bring in a tape and have it pressed onto a demo acetate (I know because I did this on more than one occasion in the late 1960's).  It would not surprise me if it was the same Sanders Recording that "released" this record (kind of like when an animal is released into the wild....).

the front cover reads, "JUDSON FOUNTAIN the boy who's been known for his portrayal of wicked witches and cackling hags since he was 7 years old - brings you 5 brand-new radio dramas, on records, as only radio can bring them to you.."

lower down it says, "Judson sometimes re-writes his radio dramas for stage and this is the way he appears under make-up.  He does his own make-up in 5 to 15 minutes.  We don't know if we can say this about all radio dramas, but we can say listen to The Wax Museum and the Evil Portrait of Old Man Beni -- INTHE DARK!!  Especially "The Evil Portrait of Old Man Beni."  For that one:  be completeyl (THAT IS THE WAY IT'S SPELLED ON THE COVER...) IN THE DARK!!!!!

I don't know if these photographs will allow you read the back cover, but Judson's bio has a great "english as a second language" quality as well... "Lately, Judson has been working very very much in churches doing religious comedy and dramas under make-up, as you can see from the pictures on the front cover; and has had a mixed crowd of both adults and teenagers of white, negro and Puerto Ricans, who said that ordinarily they wouldn't go if Judson wasn't there."  YIKES!

The tracks: The Wax Museum, Granny, Sing No More!, My Next Door Neighbor is a Wicked Witch!, The Voodoo Woman! (this is a performance broadcast on Joe Franklin's radio show and includes an interview as only Joe Franklin can do them!) and The Evil Portrait of Old Man Beni.

Condition:  The cover is a made of some weird squiggly textured shiny blue paper with the front and back black and white printed paper glued and taped on it with thick blue tape.  There is significant edge wear and the bottom seam is split along more than half of the seam.  You can see the blue numbers on the front cover.  One label also has numbers in blue written on it.

The record is noisy - like vg or vg- in spots.  It plays through, but sounds worse than it looks (not necessarily in its content, though...)

Shipping: Shipping within the U.S. will be $7.  International shipping cost will be determined at the end of the auction, based on the winner's location.  The record will be shipped in an LP mailer in a protective plastic sleeve.  Insurance is optional.  I will not be responsible for damage to carefully/properly packaged items.  I may require signed delivery confirmation on items with winning bids of $50 or more.

Acceptable forms of payment: Money orders (except for international winners) and PayPal. Payment must be received within 10 days of auction’s end, or seller reserves the right to cancel transaction and offer the record to the next highest bidder.

Thanks for looking and good luck to all who bid!!
